^^ Teflondog's advice is solid. I incorrectly assumed (because it's a G34) that you had already done that.

I would shoot the stock trigger in competition. In your area the Richmond Hotshots is the place to go. I think a more important modification is the front and rear sight replacement rather than a trigger job on a G-34. Fiber optic front and plain black rear.

Shoot some competition and try out some of the other triggers on the competitor's guns. I don't think there is an IDPA or USPSA shooter that will say no to you. Then at least you can make a more informed decision for your needs.

In my case I have a G-17 and a 21SF that have super sweet triggers by a fella in San Diego (can't remember his name). I kinda wish I would have left the triggers alone to be honest with you. I think I'm going to put the 17 back to a stock trigger. I now have a G-34 and its going to remain with a stock trigger.

FYI....There is a GSSF match in Yolo on March 15 & 16. There will be plenty of custom triggers there!!! Maybe talk to the factory folks too.

        Good Luck!!

All the aftermarket triggers (Zev, Glocktriggers, Vanek, SAI etc) are good, but honestly the only person that can say which one is better for you, is you. It's all personal preference. I tried out a couple different trigger configurations (including a $225 Vanek) and long story short, all my triggers are back to stock & staying that way. I shoot USPSA, and I figured out that I shoot faster & more consistent with the stock trigger.
Couldn't have said it better myself, it all depends on what suits your style of trigger pull and hand control

To reduce pre-travel (take up) and over-travel (follow through), you'll need a complete drop in replacement trigger group like the $200 fulcrum one that Zev sells. Anything that replaces the complete trigger housing and trigger with something that is aftermarket will get you bumped in competition from a stock or production class in any organization.

The Robert Vogel trigger available at GLOCK triggers is only internal modifications and is both IDPA and USPSA stock and production legal. However, it will not do anything to reduce pre or over travel.

Not true, there are ways to reduce over-travel almost completely.

http://www.ghostinc.com sells trigger bars with an over travel stop that you fit to your gun, it eliminates over-travel completely, and legally. And Pre-travel can be dealt with, but requires much more knowledge about the workings of the gun so that you don't disable the trigger safeties, which would knock you out of IDPA.

Here is a good primer from Ruger, it is a playlist with videos about each major competition. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL55F6C5E5BB1173A7

He is down in Santa Barbra (if your info is correct), so Richmond might be a little far for him, Yolo sure as heck is too.

However I have a solution for you! https://www.slosa.org/

This is a great shooting club in San Luis, and they host all the major handgun shooting competitions, including a rimfire match, which is a GREAT way to whet your whistle in handgun competitions. Rimfire matches eliminate all the extra stresses of holstering, and odd shooting positions that you have to deal with in both USPSA and IDPA, and many shooters from those other competitions still do the rimfire matches as well, so it is a way to start meeting them.

If you want to check out a match, Richmond Rod & Gun Club has a USPSA match this Sunday (16th) on the Action side from 9 till about 3 (sometimes it goes longer).

There's also the IPSC/USPSA practices on most Saturdays from 9:30 to 1:30. You can talk to the ROs, all friendly & knowledgeable. Just remember to wear eye & ear pro once you pass the gates.
Hope for the best, expect the worse... Does that make me an optimistic pessimist?!

Richmond Hotshots and Yolo (Solano TargetMasters) have USPSA "safety courses" which go over the basic rules and commands for a USPSA match. The Richmond one is a better deal ... pay for it, then shoot the next match free. Solano ... pay (more) for it and shoot the next match for $10 (instead of $25).

You might want to actually shoot a few comps before you start spending $$ on upgrades. Learn by doing.
