A few other thoughts:

You won't kaboom your gun shooting those 220gr HC, although it is decidedly unfulfilling when the bullets have a mind of their own. These loads use slower powders (as handgun powders go) so there is a pretty big margin for error. When you start getting near the edge, you will see the brass take on a form of smile down near the head. Those cases are scrap.

On the training for higher recoil. If you can pick up some 40S&W snap caps (or get some 10mm duds loaded up for you), have someone load your magazines for you and randomly load in a few duds into each magazine. When the gun cycles to the dud, you will see your anticipation flinch. Nothing like a little real feedback to get you settling down.

There is a wealth of information over on the reloading forums. There are a couple of immature numskulls that frequent the forum that will be on a religious quest to get you to buy xyz press, use xyz dies, etc., so just ignore those guys (you can tell who they are pretty quick, because there will be no equivocation in all their advice). The more mature guys on the forum will get you set up.
