    Glock 19 questions

    Hello everyone,

I was certain to buy a new pistol and it was going to be the Glock 19. I've shot a friends Gen 3 (older production) here and another friend's Gen 4 in Indiana. They both shot great for me right from the start.

However, once looking into getting my own I started reading about all the new problems that go along with it. The internet forums have me thinking twice about purchasing it.

I am wondering if anyone knows if the ejection problems with brass to face has been fixed yet? Should I be on the hunt for a Tenifer finished Glock because the suppose new finish wears and rust easily? What's this thing about pig nose glocks?

Just seeing if there are any recent new buyers out there that have a newer production Glock. If 19's are still causing problems I might just wait for a FS M&P to be in stock.

    It's a shooter problem...not a firearm problem.

I've watched some pretty convincing videos on YouTube, where shooters with good technique still have the problem of brass to face. I was hoping it was the shooters when I first read the complaints.

Reading about the difference in the old tenifer finish and the new melonite finishes that rolled out with gen 4s there are complaints of excess wear and rust developing on those wear spots.

In the end I want to hear from Calguners if this is noticed in their Californian Gen 3 Glocks.

Been using and abusing Glocks for competition since 1994 to present.
In both finish. Dropping pistols in to sand, crud and dirt. Mag filled ammo gets dropped in sand, my turn to shoot no time to clean just a little tap on the leg... gun keeps on shooting like the Energizer bunny...keeps on going and going.

The rust as stated is not true! All you need is to wipe with oil and no rust sticks on the slide! I have plenty of wear spots from holstering the gun but never had any rust. And this is shooting in different climates in the US.
All IPSC and USPSA and 3 Gun shooters have tortured tested the Glocks! Works great!

THe brass to the face was a problem with the early gen 4s. They have since fixed the problem. It was with the recoil spring if IIRC.

If you buy a newly stocked one, you should have okay ejection. If you add an apex extractor you should have great ejection.

Eh, I read about those, and they are kinda of an expensive upgrade to something that should work out of the box. But you did say it still worked ok out of the box, so I guess that's good enough.

The 3g G19 I bought new a month ago shoots great.

I recently picked up a Gen 4 Glock 19 that was manufactured in Feb 2014. It has all the updated parts (0-3-4 RSA, 30274 ejector, and dipped extractor).

Despite what everyone says, I will say that the extraction problem has NOT been completely fixed. I was getting hit in the forehead during the first 500 rounds so I decided to do an experiment. To eliminate any chance of human error, I used a ransom rest to do this test. Out of 200 rounds, there were still 7 instances where the brass came out of the ejection port at a 12:00 arc instead of coming out at the usual 3:00-4:00 position. I used a variety of ammo which included 147gr Winchester FMJ encapsulated, 115gr Blazer Brass, 147gr Federal HST, and 124gr +P Gold Dot. I wish I could say that the ejection issues only happened with one type of ammo but the truth is that all the ammo I tested had at least one instance of brass getting thrown out at 12:00. Glock has certainly alleviated the problem because I remember reading about it in 2011 where people were getting brass to the face for every other round. In my test, it only happened 3.5% of the time which is not bad IMO.

I've since installed an Apex extractor and ran hundreds of rounds without any issues at all. But that's just me being picky, otherwise I would have left the gun stock. Out of the box, the gun was fine as-is IMO. While getting hit in the face with brass sucks, I wouldn't consider it a malfunction because the gun never ceased to fire.

The extraction and ejection issues? No, those are both problems that can be solved by upgrading internal parts. Those issues affected guns made from 2010-2012.
We in Bangor, Maine now baby.

I had random BTF when my 3rd G19 was brand spanking new that I purchased in Sept 2013. Not many, probably less than 10 over the 1000+ rounds it has now. Over time the ejection got more consistent.
