    Recommendation re: CZ SP-01

    Hey guys.

I got so excited when I finally tracked down a CZ Sp-01. Been wanting one for a long time. At the FFL, I did a quick look of the firearm and started the DROS. Didn't notice anything out the ordinary. After picking it up and coming home, I took it apart for cleaning and a closer examination.

Looks like the front of the barrel / crown was dinged at the factory or during assembly. It seems like cosmetic, but still disappointed since it's so easily noticeable. This will be a range plinker and more for my collection, thus I would like it to be pristine to be handed down. Not a duty or HD where it will be ran and cosmetics don't matter. And it's not in a place for normal wear and tear so it will always be there. Was wondering what I can do? Should I take some 00 Steel wool and smooth out the shine? Call CZ and see if I can do something or replace the barrel?

    polish it?

you might want to get that plastic guide rod fixed too...its off center. oh yea, and if you take your handgun apart, you may notice some rough machining inside on the rails and unpainted areas on the inside. You should address that with CZ as well. hehe. j/k just busting your balls

you dont stop to think it was through handling at the lgs? CZ probably wont do anything about it but you can try. the only thing you might have been able to do is inspect it more closely before you DROS'd it at the LGS...otherwise its a he-said-she-said battle between you, the LGS, CZ, and anyone else that may have come into contact with it.

yea, i know it sucks, but youre going to be slinging 115-147gr pills at some good speeds. it'll get dinged up, believe it...unless it will stay in your safe and rarely get fired. why "pass it down" when YOU, who bought it, can enjoy it and shoot it?

Yes, try calling CZ to get their thoughts. Also seek some advice from a trusted gunsmith. Not sure if a replacement barrel from CZ is a drop-in. If so, maybe get one and store it. Once the gun is ready to be passed down, install the new barrel. In the meantime, use the stock barrel for range trips.

If I am not mistaken, however, there is a serial number of the barrel. Thus, if you replace the stock one, the serial numbers won't match... Not that it matters for paperwork as the frame's serial number is what matters.

Good luck! You have a fine handgun!

Since the ding is on the outside edge of the barrel, I wouldn't let it bother me too much. If it was on the inside edge and your rifling was damaged, I would get the barrel fixed. If it bothers you, maybe take some light sandpaper and refinish the end of the barrel.

The barrel, slide and frame are all stamped with the same serial number, so it might be best to keep the original with the gun.

              Shoot it and enjoy!

I'll probably get over it. Just sucks since this is more of a collection piece for me. I could care less about some guns, but some are for my collection like this CZ and my semi-custom 1911.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The SP-01 isn't a safe queen, don't treat it as such. Mine begs to be shot, but my 97B's been getting all my attention lately

So I decided to take a little scotch brite kitchen sponge to the dent to try to take some of the shine off so it's not so noticeable. Worked well I think.

Under the right angle and light, you can clearly see that it's dented. But since it's not so noticeable now, I don't feel as bad about.

If you aren't happy send it to CZ. I would. They have great CS. Even if it's a range gun id be a tad bled if it happened to mine
