Came home tonight and found this sitting on my desk.



Best part about it was the package was small so the wife didn't ask any questions.

Its a bit too late to install it right now, but can anyone guess what Im going to be doing this weekend? Can't wait!!

Take those sights back!

Here's why I don't like them.

*3 green dots lined up in a row makes for a cluttered and confusing sight picture when shooting quickly. It takes your brain slightly longer to figure out which dot is which, and which one you're supposed to focus on. Virtually nobody in competition uses 3 dot sight picture.

*If you're in the dark, sometimes the muzzle of your gun will be slightly canted left or right when trying to shoot quickly, making the front sight dot appear to be the right or left rear dot. Outcome; shots going wildly left or right.

*When are you shooting in environments so dark that you can't see your sights? If so, you should have a flashlight so you can identify your target.

*Those sights are "snag free" meaning no front ledge to do 1 hand manipulations off your belt/gear/kit.

*If shooting a lot with night sights in the dark, guess what? The front dot gets covered in soot, causing it to be dim to no longer visible, so now you've got 2 front dots only.

*Guess what happens to your night vision after your first shot? Exactly. You won't be able to even see the faint glow of your night sights after the first shot.

*Get some 10-8 sights; specifically the black rear and either a brass bead, fiber optic or tritium front.

*Take a low light defensive handgun class.

Thanks for the advice. I always appreciate hearing from people who have valuable insight and experience.

I have used blacked out rear and fiber optic front sights in a defensive pistol class and I just couldn't get used to them.

I have found through my personal experience that 3 dot large dot sights work best for me. I don't know if it is because I have so much experience with them that it is intuitive or if thats just how my brain is wired.

While the tritium 3 dots are not ideal for all situations, I find them to be a good compromise for my wants and needs. Oh, and by the way, great links you posted. I am in the process of reading them right now.

You will love the M&P9, it's a great shooter. I have the same gun with the Apex FSS installed. Also removed the magazine disconnect and replaced the spring while I was at it. I have the 10-8 rear sight that Jesse mentioned along with a Dawson Precision front fiber optic sight, the sights are great. For me, my eyes just can't stay focused on the front sight with a 3 dot setup, they seem to drift focus between the front and rear sights. But if the 3 dot setup works for you, keep running it until you find something better.

I am having issues with my Polymer Trigger AEK. It has 2 reset points to it, that is the only thing I have changed on it so I put the original back in until I can figure out WTH.

Do you have a Reset Assist Mechanism (RAM) installed? That is the part designed to address the (lack of) reset on the stock M&P triggers. The newer M&P designs might have better reset now, but mine is an older production model dating back to 2009, so the RAM was a definite change/improvement.

I picked up my M&P 9mm last week and have not even shot it yet. But I changed out trigger with an Apex Poly trigger and put in a Apex Comp AEK kit. it takes some tweeking to get it to where you like it. I shoot all 1911's and this is my first tuperware gun. So the trigger feels like mush no matter what I do to it. but the trigger does feel better than it did, and the huge pull weight has radically gone down. so this week I will head to the range and check it out..

For a 1911-like trigger, the FSS would have been your ticket... give it a closer look.

To the OP, the DCAEK is good stuff, you'll love it!

No everything is stock on it. I installed the stock trigger back in and realize I do actually like it. Its no 1911 trigger but it isnt bad. This pistol has a casing fired date of Jan 3rd 2014 so it must have some of the updated parts from S&W. I will look into the Ram kit but I thought I might have read that it isnt/not compatible with newer guns

took my new M&P 9mm to the range yesterday.. Even with the Apex poly trigger and comp AEK, I still hate the trigger.. But I must say I shoot it quite well. We shall see how it does in the next IPDA match...

I think one of the "resets" you are feeling is the trigger bar dragging over the sharp edge of the striker block. Mine did this also until I installed the more rounded apex ultimate striker block and the problem went away
