SF does not mean slim frame.
    SF means Short Frame.

The Glock 36 & 42 are the only slim frames that Glock makes.

The newest variant of the Glock 30 is the Glock 30S, which pretty much incorporates the Glock 30SF frame and Glock 36 slide.

They all sport the dual captured recoil spring right?
      variant = frame texture
      Glock 30 Gen 2.5 = RTF1
      Glock 30 Gen 3 = RTF1
      Glock 30S Gen 3 = RTF1
      Glock 30SF Gen 3 = RTF1
      Glock 30Gen4 = RTF3

All of the Glock 30 variants utilize a dual-recoil spring.

      Sadly they don't make a gen 4 in the 30sf or 30S
Glock 30Gen4 with no backstraps attached = Glock 30SF grip
Glock 30Gen4 with small backstrap attached = Glock 30 grip
Glock 30Gen4 with medium backstap attached = grip thicker than the Glock 30 grip

        I own a Glock 30 Gen 2.5.

If I was to get a new Glock 30 variant, I would get the...

        Glock 30S for conceal carry.
        Glock 30Gen4 for on-duty/off-duty carry.

Thanks Quiet, that's exactly what I was looking for! I suppose a set of talon grips could help the grip of a gen3.

I just picked up a 30S and it is by far the most comfortable of the 30-series to carry. My hands are large (not huge). As a bonus it fits in all of my G27 holsters. I prefer the larger backstrap on my Gen4 40's and 9mm's. I use the regular backstrap on my Gen4 G21, so it's similar in size to a Gen 3. The 30S is built on a Gen3 SF frame. I found that once I put a strip of grip tape on the front of the magazine bases (there's a pretty good chunk of real estate on those that's smooth/slick), I had a nice, firm grip to hold onto.

              Love my Gen4 30. It's a shooter for sure!

The Glock 30SF roster expiration date is 4/21/14. How likely is it that Glock will renew it?

In my opinion all Gen 3 Glocks will be renewed by Glock.

There is no gen 4 30sf, so those most likely will be renewed.

Yes, and Glock knows the gen 4 will never make the roster. Several manufactures are letting handguns expire.

So basically what I'm gathering is that if I can get my paws on a 30S at same price (highly unlikely), go for it. Thanks again for all the info guys!

I think so too, especially in light of us (maybe) going shall issue. I think others who were planning to let their guns fall off or pull out of the state may have second thoughts. California will be a huge concealed carry market if things don't get boogered up in the courts with the latest en banc's.

I am sure Glock will let Gen 3 models expire, when they issue Gen 5 or 6. They won't be manufacturing some obsolete models for California market only.
