Glock G30 vs. G30SF

I'm sure this has been discussed before, however I went to Turners a couple weeks ago when both of these are on sale. I looked at both and could not tell the difference.

I know the SF stands for slim frame, but I'm torn as I know the SF is the newer edition. I'm 6'3" and have pretty big hands, which one should I choose?

Can I get some decisions from peeps here who were in the same predicament?

Did you handle either of them.? Which felt better in your hand.? Other then dimensions there is no real difference between the two.

There is a grand total of 2mm difference in the length between the two, and a 5 gram difference in weight. So except for a couple of minor differences they are exactly the same pistol. Most people wouldn't notice any difference between the two side by side. It's just a marketing gimmick like 10+1. All you really have to do is look at Glock website where it very plainly states "The SF model reduces the circumference of the receiver at the rear, or "back strap," offering increased comfort and control, especially for shooters with smaller hands."

SF actually stands for short frame, not 'slim.' All of the SF models have a shorter distance between the backstrap and the front of the magwell. The G30, 30S, and 30SF are exactly the same width. The G36 is 4.5 mm thinner, but it's also a single stack and limits you to the 6 round mags, while the other three will all take full-size G21 magazines.

The Glock 30SF is a version of the Glock 30 that utilizes the Short Frame (SF) which is based on the standard G30 frame (same width), but reduces the trigger reach from the back of the grip by 2.5 mm (0.098 in). So, in essence the SF is a .1 inch shorter than the the standard 30, other dimensions are the same. But, for folks with smaller hands, that .1 of an inch can make a difference.

I have "large" hands and still prefer the SF models. Makes hitting the mag release just a little easier.

I personally went with the SF versions of the 21 and 30. Aside from fitting my hand better, I also prefer the grip angle of the SF frame. The difference between the regular size and SF doesn't seem like much until you compare them side by side.

The difference between the 21 and 21SF is quite significant but the 30 and 30SF are almost identical.

Was curious about this as well. The fact they don't have a gen 4 with the better texture irks me. Especially on the newer 30S might be the better carry option at 5 ounces lighter.

They all sport the dual captured recoil spring right?

You can't go wrong with either. I have a stock G30 and it fits my large hands just fine. On my G20s I have SF models. My Gen 4 Glock 21 is SF in standard form but has a couple of cool backstraps that increase the grip size for larger hands.

Also the texture on the grip is nicer. The mag release is larger. (Button)

So if I were buying a new Glock 30 today, I would hunt down a Gen 4 model.

Go with the SF or even something else if you're going to be carrying IWB. The last thing you want is to be feeling like you have a brick inside your pants.

So is it my understanding that Glocks Gen4 grip is the 3rd gens SF frame plus back straps to get it back to the larger frame size?

Sadly they don't make a gen 4 in the 30sf or 30S
