New RIA tactical compact

With the wake of all this ccw goodness happening, my love of 1911s, and my hobby of always tinkering, I decided to get a ria 1911.

I haven't shot it yet, but here's my initial impression. The fit and finish is rough and loose (as expected). This makes me appreciate my mc operator very much.

I am a little disappointed by the front strap serrations. I was hoping to hand checker the front strap. Does anyone know of a way to fill the serrations so I can then hand checker?

I will use this gun do start some basic smithing and fitting parts and see how nice I can make it.

Interesting...because my RIA 1911 GI model is as snug as a bug in a rug...no looseness at all. It's been 100% reliable with 1,200 rounds shot...not ONE, I mean not ONE malfunction! At 50 feet it will print into a playing card if I do my part. The finish is top notch...parkerized with not a single blemish to be found...I currently own Kimbers and Colts that are not any better finished or fitted.

this is refreshing to hear, especially with all the people bashing RIA for their "rough" manufacturing, even though they're one of the most reliable out of the box 1911's, nevermind the price point. I've been considering one of the compact RIA's for a while and may just "pull the trigger" on one. recently started a new job so i'll wait a bit but I've been thinking of getting a new pistol and this will probably be the one. thanks for an honest, untainted review without a glock or kimber slant!

I got mine back in Jan, love it(non tactical). Thought long and hard about swapping out the sights but after actually holding it and taking it to the range I'm pretty happy and accurate with the GI sights. Only thing left to change is the mainspring housing to an arch style and put some checkering on the front strap.

So far range wise I put 200 or so down the pipe, 100 bulk fedi, 50 Tula, and about 50ish of Winchester bulk only 1 stove pipe with fedi and a FTC with win, reasonable when breaking a firearm in. Other then that it ran tula with out a single issue and recoil was a little snappy but not a show stopper (or wrist breaker). The federal kicked the most.

I just got done putting an adjustable trigger on mine and tuned for travel. Let me tell you the trigger is just as short, crisp and nice as my Baer. I highly recommend it. The trigger I used is off a Sig 1911.

I've changed out the sights to a 3 dot system. Put a Colt plastic mainspring housing to save on weight, drilled holes in the slide, rubber grips, grip tape on front strap and put the new trigger. Next is a WC beavertail. By the way this is going to be one of my carry guns. Its been 100% since day one and I could care less if it gets beat up and looks like crap.
