    New RIA tactical compact

With the wake of all this ccw goodness happening, my love of 1911s, and my hobby of always tinkering, I decided to get a ria 1911.

I haven't shot it yet, but here's my initial impression. The fit and finish is rough and loose (as expected). This makes me appreciate my mc operator very much.

I am a little disappointed by the front strap serrations. I was hoping to hand checker the front strap. Does anyone know of a way to fill the serrations so I can then hand checker?

I will use this gun do start some basic smithing and fitting parts and see how nice I can make it.

    Here's some pics

I believe the OP's is the 2013 variant while the one you referenced is the 2014.

Google Sping fix ria compact if your having firing porblems.

Some work great out of the box others need tunning.

If you have the patience can send it back to RIA for free tunning and sometimes they do a trigger job as well.

          The accuracy will surprise you!

The hope is no problems out of the box. If there are problems, off to ria it goes. Does anybody have wait times on that sort of thing?

I got the gi officers and have done a lot of smithing work. If I mess up, oh well.

By the way the recoil is snappy on the little guy. My next project is to port the barrel.

I dig both of my Rocks

I've shot them side by side and the compact has a bit more muzzle flip, but that was expected.

Clean, shoot & repeat, I almost have 500rds thru each of them and they both worked great out of the box.
The only thing I did do is change out the wood grips on the compact, it would get a lil squirrly after my hands started to sweat.

they do make muzzle brakes for 1911. they replace the barrel bushing. they do require hand fitting to slip over the barrel.
I have one on my RIA Tactical

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

I think a muzzle brake would kind of defeat the ccw purpose of this gun buying compact.

I like my RI compact. It is an older version that has the GI type sights and I want to send it to RI and have the tactical sights installed. I'm just waiting to complete my move to the free state of Nevada to send it in. Other than the sights, I have no complaints as it has been 100% reliable.
