SRT Install Question

I am following this video to install my SRT on my p226. He talks about using the grease that comes with the gun to lube the internal parts. I lost that grease, but I have some CLP. Is "Break-Free CLP" as effective as the thicker grease that comes with the gun or should I go out and buy that type of grease?

It's not that thick as tw-25b (which they supply with the gun), but it's good enough. If you still want to apply grease, you can buy pretty much any gun grease or any lithium machine grease (like a red one from walmart). It will be as good as tw-25b for the purpose.

My personal opinion.... CLP is just fine.

Grease is best but CLP will work as well.

I personally use Lubriplate #105. You can buy a tube from Napa for eight bucks and it will last a lifetime.

I tend to use grease where there is metal-to-metal friction, especially slide to rail.

Oil dries out faster than grease, so for the hard to reach internal parts, grease is preferred, but not really critical. CLP will work ok too.

Rails are better be greased, than oiled. Springs are better be oiled

However, if you are in Alaska in winter, you may want to use oil only,

It's just the opposite. You have to grease the rails.

Follow the link that 1nsanity provided. Scot really knows what he wrote about as they saw lots of SIGs come through the shop every year with terminal rail wear.

For training classes or long practice sessions it is common to float a layer of oil on top of the grease

Have fun. SRT significantly improves double tap and rapid fire.

The rule is 'grease on the sliding parts; oil on the rotating parts'. In your case, grease the rails, oil the trigger/firing mechanism.

That is a famous lubrication thread; however, it would have been nice to have seen what happened after he put the SIG back together. Probably 50% of that grease ended up squished out of the back of the slide.
