    Used firearm round count

Is it just me or are almost all used firearms shot only 200-600 rounds? According to the classified sections, the majority of them are still in their break in periods. I have personally caught various sellers who have put false round count to make a sale
    FOR SALE:
    A2 birdcage $5
WTT CCI small pistol primers for either large pistol, small rifle, or large rifle

While there certainly is incentive to misstate the mileage on a firearm for sale I do think that most people selling used guns shoot them and figure out they don't like them pretty quickly.

I would ask why they are selling, if they say they need the money, I would be suspicious, if they simply say "I ended up not liking it, grip angle was wrong, too snappy etc." I would probably be more inclined to believe them.

Edit: And I wouldn't say the round count is the end all be all. I would be far more concerned with things I can see and notice. The only thing I'm moderately adept at assessing quality on the used market is double action revolvers (because I'm always on the look out for Model 19's). For example my favorite pistol I own has a couple thousand rounds through it, but the lock up is tight, no play in the yoke, cylinder rotates smoothly, everything is top notch even compared to pistols I have with less mileage on them.

Between enthusiasts and hobbyists, a lot of folks make impulse buys, shoot the pistol, conclude that it's not for them, and simply sell it. Personally, I'd be far less concerned with the round-count as opposed to the overall condition of the pistol(s) in question.

This, in spades. In my opinion, round count isn't a quantifiable statement on the condition of a firearm due to differences in manufacturing and design. Kel-Tec states openly on their website that every firearm they manufacture has a life expectancy of at least 6000 rounds - hardly confidence inspiring - so a Kel-Tec with 10,000 rounds through it is potentially past it's expected lifespan according to it's own manufacturer. A Ruger GP-100 with 10,000 rounds through it is barely broken in.

If I purchase a firearm, new or used, and decide it's not for me I can expect to make that decision long before I've put 500 rounds through it. I'd guess most folks do the same.

200 rounds? That's a lot. I only buy guns that are LNIB, with a magazine or two down the pipe.

Just multiply what they say by 10 It would be about what they actually shot

I've shot over 1k rounds threw most my guns, especially 22s. I don't really care about round count when i buy used, but i do figure the more expensive the ammo the less its been shot.plus with a lot of ammo being hard to get at a decent price i can believe they they have not been shot a bunch.

Round count never bothers me long as the gun itself is in good condition.

If i have a firearm that I really like shooting and put thousands of rounds through... im probably not going to sell it.

If I needed money for bills or to buy a new gun , I would be more likely to sell the gun that I don't shoot much and only have 200 rounds through.

I usually try to follow the previous history of that firearm/seller as much as I can before I buy things.

An example would be when someone is posting, I'll check what that owner post about it. Problems, complaints, and who sold it to him/her and see what theyve said. Its not that much effort. Only takes a quick few minutes to track a brief history of the firearm before you buy it

My Sig 229/40 was bought new in 98, a box of Golden Sabers cost $17.
I still have both and only ~30 rounds have been put through it. Now I'm looking for a 226/229 Stainless Elite.
                        Yes, I suck.

It happens...I took a new pistol out for the first time yesterday. It only took 50 rounds to determine that it wasn't for me. I'm trading it for another pistol tomorrow morning.

                            It's all relative.

If I was selling a gun that had 10,000+ rounds through it, then 200 by comparison would be LNIB.

Don't trust the sellers round count, run a gunfax and get the full history.
