Even if your gun comes with a lock? Like I said, all four of mine came with the lock in the case.

The lock must be ca certified or something. Like a roster of safe gun locks. Usually the one that comes in the box is not good enough.

Ah, didn't know that. The first time I picked up my G19, I got a red one that was approved. I actually looked at it lol. My subsequent purchases, I didn't look at them closely, but they were blue (my two CZs) and black (my Sig). Just a color difference makes it approved/not approved... just like the roster itself

Buy a lock at walmart. Show the receipt to the ffl. Return the lock.

One thing I did at Turner's for a trade was to bring my tiny NV safe thing. I just put the gun inside the tiny safe as a just-in-case.

If the gun comes with a California Compiant lock, there is no legal requirement to buy a new lock for it.
