    different brands of 1911s

hey guys,i just helped a buddy of mine at Reeds purchase his first hangun (g 19, not a bad choice imo) as i was looking, the sales assoc asked if i was looking for something myself, and we both agreed i need a badass 45 1911 in my life.

i would like something with a half rail, and With night sights and a decent trigger, he showed me a sa operator and a Kimber Warrior. i am familiar with springfield as a company, but not so much as Kimber, so if anyone can tell me bout them as a company that would be great, also when i got home and hit the internet theres a crap ton of companies that make 1911s, so where do i start

all my handguns are for HD, but this would be a range toy/hd and just something BADASS!!!

also what about the other brands i hear Les baer is good but im not familiar with them also

pretty much if i spend 1500+ on one of these i want to know itll be reliable and again BADASS.

so far ive only looked at the sig, sa, and Kimber models

but any advice would be great,

also if there was a place on here that gave a, lil history on the gun manufactures that would be cool

i just want something i know ill be happy with down the road, when my kids are older i can show them something awesome and not regret the purchase

    thanks in advance

I've owned most brands of 1911s and will say this. What's in a name? All the big name guns are going to be fine for the most part. Customer service on Springfield is fantastic. Or so I've heard. Never had a reason to use it.
My only question for you is this. If it's mainly a range toy, why do you need night sights AND a rail. I ask because I made this mistake myself. One or the other, you don't really need both. Unfortunately it took me 2 gun purchases to figure that out. lol Never said I was the brightest.

Dan Wesson Valor. I wanted a rail in the beginning but decided for my first 1911 to be more traditional, no front serrations, no billboard rollmarks, the best trigger, match barrel, and the best most durable finish, and absolutely no mim parts. Slide to frame fit is exceptional and love the Heinie sights. Added an Ed Brown maxiwell msh.

Recently brushed the flats on the slide.

            $1500
You could get SA operator, Sig, or Ed Brown.
I am not a big fan of 1911, but if I have that much money to spend in 1911. I would get Ed Brown or operator.

Sig makes really nice railed 1911's under your price point with all those features which will leave you with some extra $$$ to buy mags, ammo and maybe a light or holster for it. That's what I'd do.

I have a SA TRP and love it, I hear there service is next to none. With that said I've never had an occasion to find out.

I also have a Kimber, and never an occasion to send it in for service. You'll probably get some negative's on the the Kimber's, but not from me.

None of mine are railed, but one day I might look into a half rail.

to OP, you've got to check out this thread by Brian, 1911 buying guide. His collection can be displayed in a museum: http://www.1911addicts.com/showthrea...u-1911-addicts

Very nice. I have heard the Valor is one of the top "production" 1911s you can buy w/out having to break $2,000.

I don't trust mirrors so when I pick out a badass gun I have the salesman take a Polaroid picture of me posing. Then I make my choice after that. And I gotta tell you the other people at the range might have this or that but when you have a bag full of hipoints it is BADASS!

I have the SA TRP and TRP full rail ... both are great but I like the TRP with no rail better. I just got a really good deal on the full rail and couldn't pass it up.
