    DA/SA Trigger

This is probably either a stupid question or one meant for the gunsmithing subforum but this spot will do...

So I've been considering getting a P226. I keep seeing good deals on them but I really hate the DA/SA trigger (shot someone's P220). OTOH, I really love the trigger on my Sig 1911.

My question is this. Is there a way to get the same style or type of trigger break on a DA/SA handgun as a 1911?

Maybe getting a SAO Sig would be better, but a 1911 trigger is different than pivot based triggers. I think the closest you'll get is doing a trigger job, but then again it still won't have the same feel of a 1911 trigger. Bruce Gray gets recommended a lot for Sig work, you might want to shoot him an email with your questions. http://grayguns.com/

      Your options:

Convert a P226 DA/SA to SAO (Single Action Only)
      SSE a P226 Elite SAO
      Purchase a P226 X-5 Comp

All three of those routes end up with a similar trigger pull to a 1911? Interesting. Thanks!

Nothing compares to a 1911 trigger pull.

I kinda figured that was the case. I know its a very apples to oranges comparison. Are there any other handguns that are not 1911s with the same trigger?

This. Only a 1911 trigger can be compared to another 1911 trigger.

My unpopular suggestion is to invest your money into training not trigger job.

That may be just what I do. I really want a 9mm so that I can shoot ammo at a slightly lower cost than my 1911. I've also been very impressed with Sig so, for now, I'd like to stick with those guys and throw some more money their way.

Get one and shoot it DA then sa for every string.

When I got mine 20 years ago, I would fire da then sa, then decock, do it again.

                      Repeat. Repeat again.

Just like I always shoot my defensive revolvers DA only, I saw no point in shooting for score before I could shot properly.

Look into IDPA, lots of work from the holster will force you to transition between triggers under stress.

I recently got one, the DA is a bit hard to master but with practice you'll be fine. When I first got it, I couldn't even get in the rings on the paper. about 500 rounds later, I can shoot DA nearly as accurate as the SA pull. Sometimes when I'm at home I just dry fire with a laser to see how much I jerk it. Practice practice practice!
                        Have a good day!

                            Or a 1911 in 9mm

I havr shot a Sig P226 SAO with a trigger job and a Sig X5. Both are fine guns. But the trigger cannot mimic a 1911's. Not saying one is better than the other... Just that they are really dissimilar.

                            Good luck!

This. You'd be amazed how many people I see at the range with DA/SA guns that never practice the DA pull. I'm personally a fan of DA/SA decocker models. I don't like external safeties on my defensive guns. All of my 1911's are strictly range toys.
