I use a quick access safe on my side of the bed with a key on the keyhole. It should take a second to pop it open and the gun is on the ready. Every morning, I take the key with me and put it back before going to bed.

It becomes a habit over time.

I have kids in the house and I am confident in my set up.

Also, more than one in most cases. Especially if you have a room you hang out in a lot away from the quick access safe (scenario where you could be cut off from your firearm by intruders), or upstairs and downstairs. You need at least two.

Not 100% correct. Being a lawman for 30+ years, I always had a CCW. So 98% of the time when you produced a handgun people give up or run away.

Do you expect something to happen?

I wouldn't bet those odds being in my favor. If I am going to have a gun in my hand, it is going to be loaded.

Hopefully, all I will need it for, is too make sure the perp remains down after my GSD is done chewing the *** out of him.

thanks from everyone, Im going to look at the quick access safe that were mentioned ill probably pick one up today and practice with it, also like the idea of having two in the house id probably keep.another in my entertainment room.

now the other question do i give my girlfriend access to my fitearms haha

well i will but she needs to practice as she has no experience with firearmz at all......yet

Yeah get her to the range, show her how the firearm operates at home with some snap caps. Although, you may find she has no desire to use a firearm! Until then don't give her access to your firearm because it's your responsibility

I can't remember, but I picked up a 2 shelf Gunvault (no biometric) for under $100. It looks like the non-shelf is about that price now. I can open it in the dark and a little light comes on.

She will be hooked! My wife was a little afraid the first time but after her first range experience she fell in love with shooting and weapons. Now her nightstand gun is a Ruger P90 in .45 acp. She loves the .45 and refuses to have anything in her nightstand that is not chambered for .45 acp!

Reeds also has an excellent NRA pistol safety class. Very very good instruction. Teaches safety and fundamentals of stance, grip, trigger control etc. also combines range time with a variety of guns. It's nice to have another person teach when there's couples. Then, do a lot of dry fire practice of the safety and shooting fundamentals. Then, more range time!!! Then, she'll pick out her own gun and a speed vault of her own! LOL. Congrats!!!

Hey everyone, just wanted some advice

usually when i sleep at night i have my m&p9 loaded code Amber on my desk next to my bed and im getting my 686+ on monday to be my primary nightstand gun

my girlfriend when shes spends tbe nights its usually not a big deal, but her daughter who is 5 has been spending a few night with us here and there usually just piles into the same bed with us when we go to sleep so ill take my 9 unload it and put it away. when she stays with us cause i dont know what else to do.

any advice would be great because an unloaded gun cant protect us if something happens.

when we move in together (and daughter has own bed and room) obviously ill have a safe/lockbox but what should i do at night in the meantime?

Definitely get a safe! You would be surprised what a determined 5 year old can accomplish.

Also, I think you're confused on the condition status codes of firearms. Firearms have a numerical condition based on their loaded status (4,3,1), while a person has a color condition based on awareness (white, yellow, orange, red). Just fyi.
