If you want to go cheap, consider the Sig P6/P225's that are bustling about.
Those are too small in the grip for me.

I have small to moderate size hand, and I can handle the double stacked HK's and Sigs pretty well. But when I shoot the glock, the angle and the bore axis just isn't right for me sometimes. Are you sure it is the slimmer grip you need or maybe it is just the glock?
If it is the smaller grip you need, as mentioned above the Browning High power, while having a double stacked mag, does feel like a single stacked handgun. Also the HK 2000 has the adjustable straps for the grip. Both are a bit above your price range, but maybe if purchased used, it might be within budget?Comment

Best feeling 9mm is the Hi-power hands down, you can het Hi-power copies (FEG, etc...) in the neighborhood of $200-$400, though I prefer the original Brownings... Fabrique National is also one of the orig contract mfg and they can be had for $500
Other considerations:
Sig P6 or P225
Sig P228/P229
SA or Kimber 1911, I've seen these from $700-$850, it's more than $700 but for $150 more, you get what you wantComment

Do yourself a huge favor and check out the Baby Eagle. Quite slim and overall excellent ergonomics (similar to CZ-75 but in many people's opinion better).
Just as reliable and accurate as the CZ and an incredible bargain IMHO.
All of that plus the all steel construction and full length dustcover make it very easy to shoot well.
