S&W Shield, Cal. version

In an article that appeared last week (there is a thread somewhere on it) about S&W having their semi auto handguns drop off the roster, there was mention of the recent Shot Show. The Ca. version Shield was present and the article said they were ready for production.

That prompted me to call S&W this afternoon since I've been waiting for one for CCW use for almost a year. I was told last year they would be ready for shipping at the end of last summer/beginning of fall. That didn't occur. The gentleman I spoke to today said this will occur in March of this year.

I wanted to pass this on to those who were thinking of buying one and didn't want to pay $700+ for one here or on other sites. I'm #1 on a list at a first responder store and I hope this finally happens this time.

Anyone paying $700+ is an idiot. Non-CA version can be had $360-ish plus tax and $100 SSE (which includes DROS).

I can't believe the CA version still hasn't hit the shelves. And people actually pay $700 for them... Anyone want to buy mine!

With all of the other S&W semi auto pistols falling off the list, gun stores are likely to jack the price of the CA version sky high. I wouldn't be surprised to see some asking prices $500-$700. At least when they first start to show up.

Proforce I'm guessing. I'm on their list myself. And I just checked the roster. The Shield 9mm is on the list until July 2014. The 40S&W is on until September 2014.

Took some searching, but I would definitely second going the SSE route to get a non-CA version, find a dealer near you who will SSE at reasonable prices and can order the non-CA version, I was able to pick one up from Orange County Firearms for 470-480$ OTD. Great shop BTW, will be buying more from them as I can. The CA version and it's big red loaded chamber indicator, while cosmetic only, is a bit of an eyesore for me.

According to S&W's website, estimated availability for the CA-compliant shield (SKU 187021) is: "to be determined".

I'm wondering if there will be any issues if you have to send a gun to S&W for repairs after they fall off the roster. I've been thinking of going the SSE route for a Shield 9 but worry if this will be an issue...
