I rented one at the indoor range at Smith & Wesson a few years ago. Folks said they could hear it out in the parking lot.

A friend in CT has one. Ammo is cheap using his system. When somebody wants to shoot it they supply their own ammo. They buy a box shoot a couple rounds and leave him the rest.

I say go for it A guy at the range a few years ago let me shoot his Comical but fun However the ammo was about $2.50 a round at that time The cool factor was definitely in his corner that day at the range though. If I had the extra cash I would buy one in a heart beat. Figure not going to shoot 50 to 100 rounds an outing so 10 rounds at $25 is doable

I think the S&W is a totally impractical, fun, bad*** pistol and I will buy one as soon as I can afford one. Actually looking forward to reloading for it. For any of you who have, what are your rough per round costs? $1.00 per round area?

I crack a grin everytime I shoot mines so to me it's worth it. To each his own. Normally $2 a round. I prefer the Magtechs. Can't wait to try out these 700 Grain hardcast "T-Rex Killers" from ballistic supply.

A guy came into our office the other day (he might even be a Calgunner) that owns a S&W 500. I think he said it's something like $0.47 a round for him to reload using the same brass. That's definitely a lot more affordable than retail, and would practically make reloading mandatory for that gun.


It's on my list of guns to eventually buy, maybe when I have more income. I'm just hoping S&W doesn't let it fall off the roster...

My next gun... what yall think?? Just concern about ammo and when i say ammo im talking about price. But damn i like this hand gun. Is it worth it??

I have the 8 3/8" barrel one and it's definitely gets you noticed when you shoot it, I usually give the person next to me a heads up before I fire off the first round. lol Ammo can be a little pricey but you should look into reloading if you decide to get one.

I reload Hornady 350gr XTP's and it cost me about $1 a shot using my own brass.

I plan on getting one, just for the heck of it! it's a great gun, sure it's expensive and maybe impractical for every day use, but hell if I can have fun with it, when i want to WHY NOT!

Make this the last gun you shoot at the range, not the 1st coz your hands are going to be shaking for a while after.

Was not that impressed with the 700 grain hard cast bullets, 400 or 500 grain seem the be better for massive recoil and blast effect.

Correct me if i am wrong but i assume less powder is in the 700 grain casing to make room for the longer bullet, and the bullet is heavier so is far more slower when leaving the muzzle, thus a 400 grain bullet will take up less room in the casing giving more room for more powder thus more powder burn and a faster bullet leaving the muzzle giving more recoil. Or do i have it all wrong, ill shut up now.

Have you looked at the 460 XVR? It's More flexible than the S&W 500 since you can shoot .460, .454 and .45LC. I used to to own one it was just as cool to shoot but is far more versatile. S&W even claim it has highest muzzle velocity of any production revolver on earth.

Yeah I thought about the .460 XVR I just dont know much about it. A rep at my LGS mention it to me.
