    *Update*

    Just got back from the Glock store. They took a look at the firearm and determined that the damage was pre-existing. No one there had ever seen anything like that before so they were pretty interested in looking at it. They all came to the same conclusion. They were all really cool and took care of it on the spot.

      So the part has been replaced and the issue has been fully addressed? Your Glock is good to go now?

              that's weird, anyone else have the metal guide rod like the OP? mine Gen3 G19 has the polymer guide rod. wonder if Glock updated this.

                ^ many do, including myself... its not a problem. My last 6k rounds thru my G22 has been with a Lone Wolf SS guide rod... all my locking block has is scuff mark... which mayve been there after the previous 8k rounds on the stock plastic anyway lol. Ive shot about 1k rounds of .357sig thru it converted as well. It isnt the guide rod by itself, bad metallurgy on that locking block (if its just his block)..
