Wow! 1911 vs. P226 trigger pull

I first shot a 1911 when I was in middle school and then a P226 a few years later. I shot them just to shoot them and didn't think about their performance.

I recently shot a 1911 and a 226 in the same week and WOW now I know why people talk smack on Sig's trigger pull. I am not an owner of either a 1911 or a 226 but the 1911 was just a way better shooter. Crisp trigger, therefore tighter groups.

But at the same time, I am interested in the P227. So my question for you Sig owners is- how do you deal with the weird trigger pull? Do you just replace the trigger?

Go to a range and rent one with the SRT kit in it. The first pull is still going to be long and heavy. Its just the nature of the beast. But for the rest of the mag you can ride the reset and have a very short, clean pull. I put the SRT in my 229 and it made a world of difference.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Sigs triggers, your comparing 2 different beasts. Actually, I have yet to shoot another DA/SA pistol with a better trigger from the factory. Either way, go rent more guns that are DA/SA and tell me how the trigger stacks up.

Don't fret, you can get that great trigger in a Sig.

              Buy a Sig 1911!

                  This ^^^

My 226 single action pull is very good. Breaks at under 4 lbs with almost no creep and a short reset. Best trigger out of all my guns except my higher end 1911s

If the OP is stuck comparing a 1911 to a SIG P226, then he should try the P226 X-Five

You don't shoot enough. I can shoot my bone stock 226 double and single action equally well.

                      Practice is the word.

How is the DA pull on that 1911?

I broke in my 229 today with the factory SRT. If that trigger doesn't make you happy, not much will.

I don't shoot handguns often as I don't own any and don't have as much of an interest in them as I do rifles.

Like I said, I own neither so I am not a fanboy of either. Simply stating that I now understand why some people don't like Sigs. I felt that the trigger pull on the 226 was longer than a Browing Hi-Power or Glock 17. It was just a strange trigger pull and I had to use the tip of my finger to really hit it's sweet spot.

I shot a Glock 17 and a SW .357 (in DA) alongside side it and the Sig definitely had the weirdest trigger pull.

                            Then do not shoot Sigs.

                              As mentioned, apples to oranges.

The P series DA/SA trigger is meant for duty use, a simple draw and shoot approach. The long, relatively heavy pull is intended to prevent an accidental or negligent discharge. In order to achieve the same level of safety with the 1911 you must either keep the hammer down or keep the safety on, either way there's an extra step in between drawing and firing your gun. I personally (key word here, dont get all pissy) wouldn't carry a 1911 for duty use because of this.

I agree with you, I shoot better with the 1911 platform than the P series platform. But you can get a SRT and an action enhancement package from Sig that will help immensely.

The 1911 was designed over 100 years ago, the Sig was designed in the '70s. Different guns with different mechanics.
