Ruger MK series (including the 22/45) or Browning Buckmark.

Stay away from the micro tactical pistols, esp the Mosquito.
Crappy design, materials and function. I've shot Saturday night specials that work better

If the gun is for her, see if she likes the feel of a CZ, and then get the Kadet Kit to go with it. This way once she feels more comfortable with the .22, the 9mm is going to feel the same in her hand.

S&W 22A. Inexpensive, eats everything, accurate, and slide removal is very easy for cleaning. A lot of .22s are ammo sensitive. Not this one. And of course Ruger MKII III.

Cheap plinker...you could pick up a Phoenix hp22a for like $125. Yea i know junk, but for plinking with family totally fun. They are reliable and eat bulk ammo. Do the mods and it works like any other fire arm and could be a good trainer, and they are pretty accurate too.

Sweet plinker...find a colt woodsman i prefer a later models with a bull barrel

+1 on the S&W 22A. I guess there are always some lemons out there, but I don't recall mine ever jamming. I alternate between CCI MiniMags, CCI Standard, and Wolf or Federal match.

In my opinion, there is nothing more off-putting to a new shooter than an unreliable pistol. Constantly having to deal with failures to feed, fire, or eject will turn a new shooter into an ex-shooter faster than almost any other factor.

Instead of recommending specific models (I have very little experience with .22 pistols other than some exotic models), I'd recommend having your wife play an integral part in choosing a model that is ergonomically satisfying and has a reputation for reliability over a reputation for accuracy, fancy features, or cost. You can't ever guess where a new shooter's tastes might run so just get something that feels good and works to start with. If she takes to it, she's probably going to make her opinion known pretty soon about where she wants to go from there.

BTW there are EAA Witness CZ clones that come in combo packs like 9mm and 22lr.. Off roster but if you are looking at the Kadet Kit the EAA combo packs are probably a better value..

LOL no what I am saying is with a bit of effort you could get a whole nother pistol that comes with 2 slides I've seen them in 9mm/22LR and I think even 45acp/22LR. Last year they were going for bargain prices around 400 bucks!

But you would have to locate one, and SSE it..

On the other hand, since you already have a 1911 you could get the 22 conversion for it.
