my dad used to have a 66 that I dearly loved. it was stolen years ago, but thankfully I now have a 686 to take it's place. Taurus makes a great revolver though, wouldn't think twice about buying one if it was what I wanted.

sorry for you and your dad's loss
this is giving me some weight to purchase one, the reason I am hesitant is because I've been reading multiple threads and the consensus is that it's a 50/50 .. and their QC/CS are bad etc etc

Completely underrated. Essentially Brazilian built S&Ws. Taurus built 8 shot .357s, then low and behold, the S&W M&P 8 shooter. Taurus put out 'The Judge', now S&W has 'The Governor'.
I am a wheel gun guy, I have Smiths, Colts, Rugers, Dan Wessons and Taurus' and one High Standard. I also am unfortunate enough to own Rossis, Charter Arms, Pumas and other POSs.
I would not hesitate to buy another Taurus.

thanks man, it was a real bummer, lost some neat ones, only 1 or 2 that were real rare but those and some others were hard to replace. out of the ashes, he now has a 4" king cobra and he got the 686 2.5" that he gave me, and I will take it to the grave, or give it to the kids...maybe. either way, that old Taurus 66 was my favorite pistol for a long long time, and I'd love to have another like it. not a huge fan of blued revolvers but it was, a 6" with a Hogue grip. smooth as molasses it was. he also gave me his ruger p97 when he bought a new 345. I still have the 97 and he got rid of the 345 because "it just wasn't the same" i'll never get even but I did give him a mosin 91/30 and a Russian sks. good guns should stay in the family either way, regardless of how fancy or expensive they are. there's a lot more at stake than "value". that aside, I won't vouch for the weird 8-shot revolvers but the traditional models like the 65/66 are great.

I love my Tracker .357, it is my nightstand gun. Some people will badmouth them and hate them, but I think the Taurus is comparable in function and fit to alot of the more expensive revolvers out there. I would pick up another one if i get a chance.

Doesn't Taurus make Rossi and cover it under their warranty now?

Old Rossis are not warranted by Taurus if they were stamped Interarms. Think that was early 1990. As far as Taurus, my wife has a old Model 85. Very nice. But Taurus has bad resale. I would stick to Rugers and S&Ws for that reason alone.

Here's something else nobody talks about.

                        Google: Taurus firearms recall

You will see that they just had a big recall in Brazil.

Keep looking on your Google search. You will find a website that tracks firearm manufacture's recalls.

Click on the link. You will see that Taurus has never issued a recall in the US.

Now stay on that site and look for Smith and Wesson.

Tell me how many recalls you find for them.

You will always hear that Taurus makes crappy guns and that Smith & Wesson makes great guns.

But it makes me wonder if they make such crappy guns how come they have never been recalled?

If Smith and Wesson makes such great guns how come they have so many recalls?

Now don't get me wrong I like Smiths and I like Taurus. I also own guns from both manufactures.

What I'm saying is don't believe all the negative stuff you read about Taurus.

                        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Taurus workmanship and reliability....hummmm. The obvious should become apparent sometime, just hang in there.

Bought my first Taurus in the mid 80's. It's a model 66...operated nearly flawlessly all these years, until about two years ago my son and his buddies took it to the range. The ejector rod loosened up, eventually enough that the cylinder wouldn't open. Finally forced it, bending the ejector rod. Taurus CS took care of it, I just had to pay shipping to them.

One of my good hunting buddies has been using Tauras 357 that has been reliable for over ten years now. Nothing wrong with them.
