Yes, and we got into this on the same subject on another forum.

I've talked to a half dozen CA FFLs. None of them have given the same advice.

I've called the DOJ. Unlike when I lived there before, they no longer answer their phone.

Librarian, your advice, as was Frank Ettin's advice, is good. The problem is finding an FFL who knows enough to complete the transfer.

I'm just curious if anyone knows of any FFL, anywhere in California who knows 1) the guns can only be shipped into the state to a FFL and 2) that the transfer of ownership is father to son therefore "roster" rules, waiting periods, 1 gun a month rules, don't apply.

I specify #1 because I've more than one CA FFL say for my son to simply come to my state and take the guns home. If anybody asks, he's to say they're already his.

I specify #2 because one FFL said they could only transfer an off roster handgun that can be converted to single shot only. The Python cannot be converted to single shot only, therefore the Python cannot shipped into the state. That's what the FFL said.

Again, does any member here know of any FFL, anywhere in CA, who understands the above? My son would be willing to drive pretty much anywhere in the state. He drives to watch the Dodgers, go to Disney, etc. Distance is no problem.

There are so many knowlegeable FFLs can handle your situation without any legal problem.
give Tracy Rifle and pistol a call and they should be able to take care your situation.

Yes, thank you. Someone already suggested them and I did so. It was one of their staff that said the above re the Single Shot Exception rule. That person said the Python could not be shipped into the state, etc.

But Frank Ettin, on The Firing Line, said he personally knew the owner and to call him. I will do so as soon as they open. Noon central time/ten Pacific.

What I've discovered this week is that many CA gun store owners are out of pocket because of the Vegas show.

But I will take your advice and call them this afternoon. And if he is at the show, will wait till he returns.

There is no immediate hurry for this transaction. I'm just worried that, at the rate CA gun laws change, he might not be able to have them.

Edited to add: I called ugi but they don't actually answer the phone. I gave them an email outlining the situation. I'll wait and see. BTW, that's a heck of a website. Thanks again.

I just got off the phone with Sherry at the California DOJ. She was very polite.

She said the following:

There is no need for any interfamialial paperwork since the guns are going to a CA FFL and standard DROS procedures apply.

There is a ten day wait.

There is no monthly limit on firearms received.

In each package/with each gun is a copy of my driver's license. There is also a letter describing the make, model, caliber, general description and serial number for each handgun.

Neither the SSE nor the roster apply.

She said at this point the only issue is to find a FFL who clearly understands the above.

I don't mean to make it sound worse than it is. In all honesty, my move from California was job related, and I might move back someday regardless the gun laws.

I've still got family out there, family I don't see very often. And I have no family here. Just my wife and myself.

I just gotta hit that Lotto first.
