It looks like one solid piece folded over into a very flat U. Then turned sideways and driven into the frame.

It could have been jammed in from the wrong direction. If you can't get it on your own, don't damage it. Take it to a machinist or gunsmith. I may be visiting the penisula next month but, I hope someone else can help you before then!
