How do I load this gun...?

I have a civil war centennial model colt in .22 short. It is a single shot revolver that looks like the old percussion style. I've heard that you have to remove the barrel. How do I go about doing this?
    Thank you

What is it a reproduction of a Colt first model derringer?

It's a revolver. Looks like the old percussion type. Sorry, no camera for pictures. It's not a derringer.

Either a picture, let us know your location and maybe meet someone or bring it to a shop. In any event, don't shoot it unless you are 100% sure that you are doing everything correctly. If you're in my area, I can meet you or recommend a shop to take it to.

So, your link says that you need to remove the barrel and that it's a single shot pistol that only looks like a revolver. I will assume that the barrel is removed by pulling the barrel wedge out just like a standard 1861 Colt.

A hammer? I can see how this is going to turn out.

It was a soft mallet, not a real hammer.

I think you may need to pinch it while you are LIGHTLY TAPPING on it with a soft faced hammer.

Use a brass hammer... rest the pistol on its side on a piece of wood. Typically these wedges are driven in from the left side.
So you need to drive it from right to left.

I wanna see this when it's apart... I wonder if the .22 loads into the barrel section?

                            Cannoneer,
what d you mean by pinching it? (Besides the obvious). By lightl to medium tapping it I have moved it about a quarter of an inch. It won't wiggle or anything.

Some wedges have a lock that is spring loaded. Is your wedge one SOLID piece or can the middle of it move if "pinched"?
