L.A. County Gunsmith?

This is what I can say about Kings and being open. They were bought out and expect a name change.

Parts will continue to be sold under the Kings name and they were kept by the Capone family.

The new owner is some kind of gun smith. I don't mean to dimish his/their abilities I just have no knowledge of the quality of the work.

This also could be wrong information it's what I heard from somebody that should know.

I'm about 15 minutes away from Kings and decided to use them for some minor smithing on one of my 1911s a few months ago, what they told me over the phone was that they had no immediate plans on offering any smithing service under the new owner ship, but they're not ruling it out for the future.

I've had guns done by Alan Tanaka and Jim Hoag and they are top notch. Recently, I had some 1911 work done by Dave's Metalworks and his work is impeccable. Dave is also very easy going and friendly. I highly recommend him.

Hoag had my bolt to reblue for 2 months and never did the work.

Funny you should mention that. I've tried calling his shop several times over the past few weeks and the phone has never been answered (well, the answering machine picked up....).

I heard from Tanaka last night. Turns out he's been closed for vacation for a few weeks. He'll be open as usual this Monday morning.

That's GREAT good news, BT! Many many thanks for the follow-up! In addition to being an all-around great and personable guy, Alan is a high-line professional; he dots ALL the i's and crosses ALL the t's...

I'm relieved that it was just a vacation and not anything else...

Gunsmith

Another fan of Bain and Davis. Not only does beautiful work in a timely manner, but very friendly and helpful, even if it's just answering a question.
Sadly, on Kings, reports are true. New ownership. Will still buy from them, as sales staff remain and they are great guys, but no gunsmith work. Had Hoague mess up a trigger job, 20 years ago. Never been back.
