Which Python would you make the shooter?

my guess is that the messed up finish on the python hunter came from it being stored in the haliburton case. The original foam is known to decompose and mess up the finish -- lots of hunters in this condition.
back to your question -- I'd probably shoot the hunter since it's already been refinished. a 6" python in 98% is kind of a collector item, so shooting it will bring value down as you wear away the finish (especially the turn ring on the cylinder).
Since the hunter has already been refinished, you can always send it back in to be refinished again.
In any event don't store the hunter in the case.
nice pickups!Comment

Shoot both and still ask for (and easily get) $2000 (today) for the refinished one. If you're never going to sell, well then it doesn't matter how much you shoot them does it?I know I'm gonna get got, but I'm going to get mine more than I get got though.Originally posted by Enfield47I'm rooting for the allied team, I think we won last time but I can't remember. I just remember it was a lot of fun.

Yea, That's what I was trying to determine, if one or both were collectors grade.
thanks.. I wont store in case.my guess is that the messed up finish on the python hunter came from it being stored in the haliburton case. The original foam is known to decompose and mess up the finish -- lots of hunters in this condition.
I"d bet your absolutely right. I have researched and read the same thing.

Agreed with above, between the two I would shoot the 6", since its already been shot. And agree the 8" barrel is too long.
For that matter I think the 6" is also a little too long.
My shooter Python is a SST 4". Perfect balance and the SST is very easy to clean and repair.Comment

I'd fire #2. It lost a bit of value when you had it refinished. Also why it was so cheap.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

the example refinished by Colt has more value than if it had been refinished by other hands, but will not possess the value an original finish affords.
the example you described to be in excellent condition with original finish is your safe queen.
congrats on both pick-ups and as beetle has suggested (post #17), store both handguns appropriately.Comment

Well, probably because of the finish. It was never in his gun shop, I just had mentioned how my friend was showing off his python and I wanted one. He then said he would sell me one brought the hunter for me.
LOL
