Which Python would you make the shooter?

    1. 6 inch blued python used, vs.
    2. Python hunter, never fired but refinished. (colt factory)

Python 1, the 6 inch used; some of you will recall from previous thread that I purchased this from "gunbroker.com". (after much stress : ) It is used, but excellent condition, original finish, about 98% with visible turn ring.

Python 2 Scored a python hunter with original Halliburton case from my local gunsmith who is about to retire for $1200. (it pays to ask for what you want) When I saw it, the finish was all messed up. Apparently something had spilled on it and ruined the finish, however, it was never fired. I figured I"d take a chance and bought it and sent it off to Colt to see if they could re-finish it. Christmas Eve it arrived from Colt! Well, I"m not an expert in this field but it looks pretty damn good. But I hear that that when you refinish a classic, it loses value. It would be nice to shoot one and store one, but not sure which one will increase more in value.

(I suppose option 3, shoot the hell out of both? : )

    thanks...

I may shoot booth, I was just wondering which one is worth more, a used original finish, or a never fired factory re-finished.

I would prize a 98% used over a factory refinish but that's me. You did the right thing sending it back to Colt, their blueing is impossible to match.

shoot the refinished one, it will never be worth as much as the original condition one.

buy a third python that was carried for 20 years like I did and shoot that one. My pristine ones are kept in the safe wishing they had the boxes. My third one is my shooter and had a finish of about 40-50 percent when I got it and lots of muzzle wear. I have no guilt about shooting that one. If I didn't have it I would just shoot my 686 or one of those instead and be happy.

I'd shoot the 6". The 8" plus that scope is kind of a bummer to shoot. 6" are much more enjoyable. If it's not collector grade it won't lose too much value.
