Can an 18 year old legally be in possession of a handgun?

Hey everyone, I'm curious if people under 21 years old in California can legally be in possession of a handgun and take it out to a shooting range? My father passed away several months ago and left me and my mother with his 2 guns (a Remington 870 and S&W Model 10). I have great memories of shooting his revolver out in the desert with him as a kid and would like to take it out to the range by myself. I just don't wanna get a felony or something crazy for being in possession of a handgun if I'm only 18.

yes, it is legal for a 18-year old to be in possession of a handgun.

you need to read the PC and learn the laws yourself.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

As Long as you can legally own a gun go do these simple steps. 1. Go get your self a HSC (hand gun safety card ) local gun shop 2.Then submit a inter family transfer paperwork to the DOJ with the required fee this form requires the HSC card and the gun is now yours to as you want.
Keep a copy if this form with the pistol if you would like just to keep your self safe if the need arises.

I ran into this problem when I was only 20 and my mom gave me a Glock 23 for my bday. My solution was simple. I went and bought a Ruger pc4 carbine. Both weapons are .40 caliber. Once I had the rifle my LGS was able to sell me all the .40 ammo I wanted because they were selling it to me for the rifle I bought from them. I don't know the caliber of your model 10 but I'm sure there's lever action carbines chambered in the same caliber available.

Sorry for your loss. You'll do yourself a favor by learning the laws, but that comes with time. Welcome to the forum. Feel free to PM me or anyone else with questions, and if we cant answer them, we'll try to point you to someone who can.
My AR is 7.62x39, so that if/when we get invaded, I can shoot their ammo back at them!

It's a great solution back then, but nowdays all the great deals are on-line. Very few sellers would allow 21- to buy, no matter what.

Do you mean possession or ownership or both.

Kids go hunting with their dads or alone in many states.

In Texas (the best country in the world), I did. haha
