Hey guys!
I picked up a Springfield GI for my first pistol back in January. Its a wonderful pistol and I purchased it cuz I wanted the good ol' fashioned WWII style 1911. I also got it since a lot of people claim it to be a wonderful base gun for a custom job or upgrades.
Springfield does not seem to have an online store for parts other than magazines but kimber had most of the stuff I want, except for the hammer and trigger.
I'd like to do the following on my pistol:
-Stainless extended ambi-safety
-Stainless barrel bushing
-A stainless ring hammer. Looks like this
-stainless high ride beavertail grip safety
-Stainless slide release
-A stainless trigger--One of those really cool ones with 3 vertical holes drilled trough it. It looks like this
-Some extended base pads for my mags. Will these work on my Springfield standard mags?
-A stainless recoil spring plug---If anybody makes one
-A mainspring housing with those arched mag lips
I'd prefer the housing to have a lanyard loop if possible
-some fancy grips
Will this stuff fit my springfield? Also, where can I get the trigger/hammer I want?
I also noticed that kimber has those guide rods that protrude through the plunger when fired, can I install a stainless one on my pistol? The springfield GI just has a long spring with a short rod in it.
Lastly, I'd also love to have dot sites on my pistol, yet still use my original slide. Is this possible or do I need a new slide? I kinda had these in mind.
Can I get all of this stuff from kimber and have a smith install it? Would I be better off sending it to springfield for this stuff? How should I go about doing my mods?
