So things just got real... I went to pick up my gun from the FFL tonight on the way home from work and they told me that I was going to have to wait 10 days and pay $100 transfer fee to get it. They called the California DOJ while I was there and the DOJ said that they should have sent the gun to me directly and that yes, the gun would need to be transferred to me and re-DROS'ed as it constituted a dealer transfer for them to send it to a FFL. I asked them if Sig had contacted them to arrange this as the customer service rep at Sig said he would. Guess what- they never heard from Sig. So now I wonder what I should do. I'm thinking small claims court is the easiest avenue to get my money back and to compensate me for time lost/wasted, but maybe this is a great opportunity for a lawyer/the NRA to set an example. If you are a lawyer or the NRA, please feel free to contact me. Sig Sauer needs to realize that they can't treat Californians this way.

That really sucks! I'm guessing the FFL charged you because you didn't buy it from them. It might have been cheaper just to take it to a local Sig armorer... This is a totally unacceptable situation you're in. Please keep us posted.

According to the DOJ any FFL receiving a handgun from a factory needs to re-DROS it and wait the 10 days otherwise the FFL is breaking the law. There was zero gray area to that claim. Additionally there was zero gray area to the fact that Sig should have shipped it back to me directly. That's from the DOJ...

Ah okay that's makes sense pertaining to the transfer.... What doesn't make sense is that Sig should've sent it to you and they didn't. I hope you can get compensated for the fees and trouble.

Sure makes me glad I got my Sig via SSE. Otherwise, I would have been stuck with the option of getting the "girleyman" edition.

Sig insisted on sending it back to a FFL. They couldn't come up with a state law that necessitated this, nor could they give it to me in writing. But this is a full breach of contract in my opinion. I would not have bought this gun if had known I'd be dealing with this...

I'm curious if they treat the military and law enforcement agencies (Federal & local) the same way. My friends in law enforcement have told me of poor customer service from Sig and thus Sigs were not going to be purchased in the future. Cracked frames as well.

Ive been a big sig fan. Love the product, but I don't think I can buy another sig or recommend a sig based on this new policy...

Is there an ongoing thread about this problem? I am getting ready to purchase a used P229 and haven't heard about this problem before. What's the fix besides shipping it back to SIG?

I had a CA P229 Enhanced Elite and had zero failures. Even after I hard chromed it, I shot another 500 rounds with zero failures. I guess it could go both ways.

I'm a big Sig fan. And I have first hand experience with Sig's poor CS 5 years ago. Though I have hear they got better through out the years. I just about to gain enough confidence to purchase their firearm again...

Assuming that SSE exists at the time warranty service is offered. SSE is a loophole (yes I said it...a LOOPHOLE) that I will put money down will soon be closed. Didn't happen this year, but it's destined to happen. Hopefully the roster is gone altogether before it does.

Only if they replace the frame with one with a different serial number. Nearly all repairs do not require this.

It would be very unlikely, but the worst case is if it is a model that is no longer on roster and they replace the frame then has to be re-DROSed and SSEed to be transfered back.

Glocks don't need a decocker as they aren't cocked until the trigger is pulled...they are one of the safest guns to carry with one in the chamber.

If Glocks had a decocker and allowed me to keep one in the chamber (with peace of mind) I'd be all over them...

If you take the gun to an FFL and have them ship it to Sig (Sig will send a label to the dealer). when the gun is returned to the dealer he can hand it to you with no DROS or 4473. The feds and the state allow the return of repaired firearms to the individual they are received from, it does not matter if the dealer sent it out for repair or fixed it in house.

If you send the gun to Sig yourself and they send it to a dealer it will have to be DROSed since it is considered a transfer by the state and feds.

Having a dealer send it can actually save you money since they can ship it cheaper then most people can.

I have sent in many firearms for my customers for repair and modification and returned them directly to my customers. Most manufacturers will send a shipping label to an FFL dealer to have the gun sent in for warranty repairs.
