I've never heard anything but positive reviews for function/ reliability on them and while looks are poor and they are a bit bulky for CCW, they do what they were intended to do very well.

They go bang on a budget.

I have the Hi-Point C9 and the carbine. The 9mm pistol is chunky and top heavy, but it goes bang every time you pull the trigger and is reasonably accurate. When you fire a Hi-Point, it feels completely different from other 9mm's due to the top-heaviness. The pistols are a pain to clean as you have to drive out a few retaining pins to strip it, so I only clean it about once a year, since I bought it cheap second hand, I'm less inclined to take care of it. In the meantime it remains 100% reliable. It never jams, never FTF, never FTE, which is alot more than I could have ever expected from any cheap gun. The only reason I bought one was I read a very favorable review of the C9 in "Combat Handgunner" magazine a couple of years ago.

Only buy one if you can live with the shame of owning a "Ghetto Glock".

The carbine needs to be "redressed" in an ATI stock before you can take it out in public. You can get one sent to a CA FFL, if a bullet button is already installed. Do a search on Calguns and you will find more info if you are interested in one. Again, my 9mm carbine always goes bang when you press the trigger and last time I took it to the range I got a 3" group at 100yds using Winchester White Box and a 1x red dot scope.

I'm still trying to figure how that hipoint carbine got bought by a friend if mine a couple of years (2004) ago. Its weird looking, but works every time.
I was thinking it must have been a PPT situation.

In firearms more than anything you get what you pay for. I'd hold off until I could save another $200, and than buy something decent.

Thanks for the info and opinions everyone. I think i'm going to grab a couple/few of them for strategic placement around the home. Funcionality was my only concern, i can see it's not the prettiest thing, lol. As long as it functions. I doubt any of them will ever see over 300 rounds.

Makarovs aren't even $200 anymore.

He might be able to pick up a Pa-63 for that price.

Picked up 2 for 200 bucks each... but those were family members.

I have tested my C9 with HP ammo, and it will feed HPs without a glitch. Hi-Point handguns are also rated for +P ammo as well.

I have a High Point carbine in 9 MM. Mine is around 10 years old. Is it California legal, I think so. I took it to a indoor range last month owned by LE Officers, They passed it to shoot, I have broken several fireing pins, All replaced by the factory free. I have a Tasco red dot scope on top. Paid more for it then the gun. I have had more trouble with it then any other gun I have in the safe. Would I buy it over again, Yes I would . Not as a first Gun but as a weapon to play with. When it shoots I place a round in a paper plate at 75-100 yards with a 10 year old Tasco red dot scope. By the way the gun broke a fireing pin I think last Sunday. I have not pulled it apart yet.

This is not a gun that's gonna last you for years and years down the road. You won't be handing this down to your grandchildren. You'll probably grow out of it pretty quick, and want to move onto more of a "real" gun if you shoot fairly often.That being said, the .380cf I got from turner's is actually a lot of fun for the $120, on sale, it cost me. Get a Sig P6 for $350 or a used Glock for a much more refined, long lasting, and rewarding shooting experience.

I have the hi-point carbine and it works great no malfunctions so far. I am also selling the original stock it came with (has the bullet button installed) I created my own when I transfered it to the ATI stock. And one other good thing is hi-points have a no questions asked free of charge policy when it comes to fixing the firearm.

IMO they all look like crap and are bargain bin guns, if your looking for a semi auto long gun for 200 bucks go buy a OLL and save up for the rest. just my .02 cents

Wow! You're right. It went off roster in May. I'm glad I picked one up 3 months ago for $99.
