    Hi-Point Firearms

Anyone know anything about these handguns and carbines? Are they pieces of garbage? The carbines are incredibly ugly but the handguns looks are ok and they are extremely inexpensive and American made. The entire line of handguns are under $200.00. And are those carbines CA legal?

Gun Tests rates them high for function and low for looks and bulk (handguns).
I Know someone who has a 9mm, clunky and chunky but goes bang everytime. They are on the CA Approved List!
I think the carbine is not CA legal. Too bad 'cause now they have a .40 S&W version. Cheap, reliable accurate. More "forbidden fruit" Aaaargh!

Not in stock form, but I believe that other members here have come up with a mechanism for modifying it in such a way that it does not have "the capacity to accept a detachable magazine". In other words, they either fix the magazine or make it require tool to remove (i.e. bullet-button style). Do some searches here and you should find more information.

There is an after-market stock which helps in the appearance department.

$200? Phoenix HP22 .22LR for plinking (On the List)
NAA mini revolvers but still a .22
Davis stuff can work OK but keep fresh springs and the round count low.
Too bad no Kel Tecs here anymore.

How' bout a Makarov? Gotta go used I think to get something decent.

              Makarovs aren't even $200 anymore.

He might be able to pick up a Pa-63 for that price.

hipoint is one of the last surving junk gun manufacturers
(by junk gun i mean straight blowback in significant calibers using zinc slide castings)

here is the other survivor of the lorcin/jennings/raven/phoenix arms family

Phoenix is out in Ontario and still alive! I just bought the HP22 and it is suprisingly good. Not a single failure on the first shooting day in over 200 rounds.
Davis / Raven / Lorcin / Jennings are now Cobra Enterprises, in Utah now. A couple of their guns are on the list still. LOL
The link is the most updated version of the old Raven .25. : )

Yeah, what an incestfull family business LOL. So many changes of title and owners etc. All the same group! You are right about Jennings.
BTW, the Cobra slides springs etc all fit the Davis and most Raven models so parts are still available. Keep fresh recoil springs in the zincers and they will last a long time. Get the steel firing pins. I resurected a Davis 380 using the Cobra parts (reasonable prices) for a student who was on a tight budget but loves the 2A.

Okay, I own 4 Hi-Points--1 995 9mm carbine and 3 pistols. All of them shoot just fine. The carbine is actually a lot of fun; it has over 2000 rounds through it and not a single problem. The 3 pistols I bought from a guy who wanted to sell all of them at once. I'd never owned any of these pistols so I bought them. The 9mm and .380 are the same pistol in different chambering. This makes for a heavy blow-back 9mm and what has got to be the largest, heaviest .380 I've ever seen. Both work fine with any ammo I've tried. I've also got a HUGE .40 that works just fine--again it's a blow-back design. I don't see a problem with somebody on a limited budget using these but I believe the only Hi-Point product available in CA is the 9mm pistol.

As for the 'ring of fire' pistols, they seem to change names and owners to avoid paying judgements. I have also had a couple of Raven.25s and they worked fine too. If you want to play with one of these just look at the die-cast parts for signs they've been dropped. Everyone I've ever known that complained they didn't work had one that looked like it had been dropped.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

The "ring of fire" people did a "dance around the fire" of judgements for sure!
" Largest, heaviest .380 I've ever seen"... LOL
Yup, my $35-way-back-when Raven .25 goes bang every time...till the firing pin breaks, put in a steel one good to go...My Davis .38 derringer is just perfect for snake shot. Goes bang every time too.
These guns are like riding scooters...you don't want your friends to see you with one but you sure can have a lot of fun with 'em!

To the OP, I own one of the C9. It was my first gun. It's ugly, heavy, bulky, the trigger isn't great. But be side all that, it does what a gun needed to do. Some time is a bit hit and miss on reliability. Mine work great the first 1500 rounds(with about 5~10 malfunction), than fire pin spring got weaken(light primer imprint). After replaced(free, just call their cs), when on about 3000 more rounds with less than 10 malfunction.
IMHO, it make a great first gun and training gun. If you can handle this gun, you can shoot well in all hand guns.

                              about 25ft.

I just saw Turner's outdoorsman ad, it's on sale for $139 right now.
