Gun I want is scheduled to drop off roster . . .options?

So the Springfield EMP I want is scheduled to drop off the CA Roster on 2/6/14. And I already have two guns with deposits that I need to DROS before then, so:

    1. Is there anyway to tell if Springfield will renew this particular gun? And if they are going to, how does the process work. . .is it a smooth transition, or will there be a time when it is completely off the roster and then come back again?

    2. If I pay for the gun in full at a store, will I be able to DROS it after it drops off the roster, or would I be out of luck?

    3. If worse comes to worse, and my only option is SSE after it falls off the list, who can do it in SoCal?

        1. If they do renew its a smooth transaction for another year. If they do not renew and it falls off roster it will not be coming back on since it is impossible for new pistols to get on roster.

        2. Even if you pay for it in full, if you havent completed DROS, you will still lose the pistol if it falls off roster.

        3. Im sure there will be some FFL who can SSE it for you but it prolly wont be right away since it takes time making the barrel/parts for SSE.

Honestly the only way to know is to reach out to the manufacturer to see if they will renew. Hopefully they will.

Maybe buy that one now, and wait until next year to complete one of the ones you already have a deposit on?

If it drops off the list before you pick it up you are screwed.

Find one via PPT - not subject to 1 in 30 day rule.

Do the one that's going to fall off the roster first.

This! DROS it first. The other 2 you have deposits on can wait.

IIRC, if you get a C&R, and a COE in time (which, based on what I have read is a possibility, but not guaranteed) then I believe you would be exempt from the 1 in 30 day rule. Of course convincing the LGS that this is the case might be difficult depending on which one it is. I'll look up the info and update, unless someone chimes in sooner with the it.

Wrong. If you start the DROS before it expires you may still take possession after the expiration date.

If it is removed from the roster after you start the DROS you can not take possession of the gun.

                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I am not sure if I am reading this right.

"If it is removed from the roster AFTER you start the DROS you can not take possession of the gun."

Isn't that suppose to be "BEFORE"?

if I remember correctly, there were several calgunners who had DROS'd the Ruger SR22 and were in the 10 day waiting period when the gun fell off the roster. They were not able to take delivery of the guns.

Unfortunately, that was not true for me. I had already completed DROS on an SR-22 and was in my 10 day wait. LGS called to say that the gun was removed from the roster and that DOJ would not allow them to sell it. I called DOJ and got the same story.

If the gun falls off the roster, even when it is in jail, you won't be able to buy it. So your other option is a PPT.
