    Taurus PT99 mag issue

My cousin grabbed a PT 92/99 mag from the gun show this morning and is kinda pissed it's not working at all.

He only paid $25 for it so it's probably a Chinese knock off but were just trying to see why it's not functioning.

Issue #1 the slide won't lock back

Issue #2 it locked the slide back or jammed on the 7th/8th round (10 rounder)

Issue #3 (main issue) this thing gets jammed and I mean jammed in the mag well good and tight and will not pull or drop free.

Hopefully someone can help us he's looking up if there is a different mag or something on his end but he asked the girl for a 92/99 mag and supposedly she have it to him.

This was picked from the Hard to Find Mags booth. So buyers beware. Hopefully we can get this figured out he's kinda bummed.

And, he did ask for a Taurus magazine?

Taurus and Beretta magazines are NOT interchangeable.

But for your best help you should ask over here:

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

He said he asked for a Taurus cause like you he said he read some where they differ slightly. Is there anything you want me to take a pic of to tell if he got a beretta mag? I'll snap pics

Issue #1 the slide won't lock back
Most likely the indent on the follower that is supposed to push up the slide catch is too low, too narrow or not engaging the catch.

Issue #2 it locked the slide back or jammed on the 7th/8th round (10 rounder)
Returning to the follower again, I suspect it is a sloppy fit in the body and can twist sideways, wedging the ammo or itself against the body.
The noses of bullets twisted sideways are pushing up the slide catch early.

Issue #3 (main issue) this thing gets jammed and I mean jammed in the mag well good and tight and will not pull or drop free.
The body is too wide due to poor forming. Guess what, a too wide body will also let the follower twist sideways, leading to 1 and 2 above.

          Possible fixes:
If there is a rippled or expanded area of the body that you can identify, you may be able to slightly collapse the body in a vise.
This usually does not work, but hey, the mag does not work anyway so you have nothing to loose by trying.
Inspect the inside of the body for burrs or uneven edges that may cause the follower or spring to bind.
If the coating (if any) on the mag inside is tacky, you may have to strip it out and polish the inside to eliminate binding.
If you can get a genuine Taurus follower that might make the mag feed and function correctly, but it will likely always be really hard to get in and out.

You may find it is cheaper in the long run to buy a genuine Taurus mag.

          Good luck!

Yea he got rid of the sticking issue by sanding one of the angles next to the feed lips. Was dragging hard. The follower doesn't look like it even has a catch lip to engage the slide catch. Yea he's regretting his purchase haha

I told him stop going to gun shows for this exact reason. Has a receipt but it states no refunds or returns. Wamp Wamp.
