OP, glad you have resolved the initial issue!
Please don't get upset at the heated discussion, that's what we're here for!
I think the one hand rack is not normally useful, but you never know, so they add it in pistol courses. Also, again, the pistol training classes are like "Fantasy Island" so, give us civvies a break! I think the training guys add it because it's expected that we "learn" something new, or else we might review the course as "Meh, we didn't really do anything interesting".
Think of track driving courses (motorcycles, fast cars) ... you learn skills that have no place in real life, but you learn real skills too. They spice it up with those "OK, no pull the parking brake and spin around" or "let's learn to do wheelies" just to keep things interesting and FUN for the customer.
Half my Glocks have their original sights, one has "competition sights" because that's what came with it (used). It's kind of good to be able to switch back and forth between the different sights because in the end, the principle is the same. the fundamentals are always the same.
So ... remember it's all just debate, speculation and discussion here.

I have a friend who was shot through the arm in Afghanistan. He did NOT drop his pistol! But again, he was manning the Humvee mounted machine gun (whatever it is) so that's a hard thing to drop! .... Can you fire those with one hand? And ... he's fine now, he said he at the time he was given a morhphine lollipop! That must have been interesting ...
