The guys jacket is what it said, most rounds either went 1" or over penetrated.Did you read the whole article?
There is probably no loading in .40 SW that will penetrate one inch. Gold Dots will definitely not do that. How do you figure that a .40 cal Gold Dot would be slowed down that much? There was no mention of a barrier in the article.
No, ballistic gelatin is not living tissue, but it's a good simulation of living tissue for ballistic testing. A lot of experts came up with this stuff and the calibration methods for it to make sure that it works and is a good simulation of terminal ballistics in living tissue.
Did you see the one in his neck ohhh man. There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

I guess I won't be getting the answers to my questions. Not that I expected otherwise.
And as it has already been posted before I am quite positive the people who use ballistic gel know that it is not human. It's used as a general guidline to test terminal performance as it mimics muscle tissue well. That's why they advocate a minimum of 12 inches of penetration. Bone and other obstructions as well as different varibles must be taken into account, thus the 12 inches guidline. And you keep bringing up animals. Funny how the same concepts in hunting also apply to 2 legged people defense. Which round is more effective against a large game animal like a Moose? The super high velocity 110gr 30-06 load with over 3000ft-lbs of energy or the 220 grain load with less energy? I wonder why hunters are worried about deep penetration and striking vitals???Comment

RBCD
Just to clarify,La Mas is NOT the maker of RBCD,they are a distributor of RBCD. RBCD is made in Texas and owned by the Stocker family.Comment

I've done tests of .32ACP RBCD, and it showed severe case bulging and signs of over pressure in the primer (flowing). VERY dangerous, IMO. Their claim of standard pressure loads is total BS.
Great way to blow up a perfectly good handgun.
Read the whole officer article- the underpenetrating rounds were .223 TAP, NOT .40 S&W. The .40 worked fine. The .223 TAP was the ammo that failed to stop 9same as a fragmenting RBCD would). The one solid .40 hit nearly took the guy's arm off. You won't stop any .40 bullet in 1" of penetration unless the guy has plate armor *IN* his chest.
I have no use for this stuff.
If you want a cheaper fragmenting load, fire 100-115gr. 9mm +P/+P+ out of a long barreled gun (Glock 17, 34). That will have roughly the same effect.

Well I reload in 30-06 I use 110gr Vmax to destroy meat like coyotes not to hunt deer. You can kill deer with a .22LR what do you think a 110 gr V max going 3200 fps will do?I guess I won't be getting the answers to my questions. Not that I expected otherwise.

I and other hunt with heavier rounds because we don't want to spoil the meat. Velocity and fragmentation destroys meat.
A 150-180 gr round will have enough momentum to penetrate through thick bone and skin with out a huge cavitation and fragmentation, why do you think the TAP rounds in .308 are 110 gr V max rounds??

Look I am not saying the RBCD is the Answer to everything.
Here is what I like about it.
Huge permanent and temporary cavity. Frag and a Bigger wound area are more likely to hit vitals. Everyone hates the stuff because it penetrates 10-11" instead of 12"
penetration is not the problem FMJ penetrates with out a problem but has had a bad street record at around 50%. A guy at my gym was hit 5 times with a 45ACP in FMJ, lost some of his stomach but is still alive. 4 out of 5 rounds exited and one is stuck in his hip. If it was RBCD he would not have a stomach and not Be here.
Low recoil the follow up shots are fast.
Great feeding, because it's shaped like FMJ
100% expansion and fragmentation I don't have to worry about a JHP clogging up and acting like FMJ.
Penetrating heavy clothing due to it's high velocity it will penetrate clothing with out a problem.
I am soon getting the LE version because my girls dad owns a security company I can umbrella under
so now were are talking about AP and 18" of penetration.
Penetrating car doors it zips through them like butter having enough energy to kill on the other side.
Some car doors will not be penetrated even with FMJ
Here is what I don't like
The price sucks
Not a lot of people have been shot with it yet. There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

I just found this thread. And it seems to have basically the same argument found here:
Again we see lostinspace selling the snake oil in the riflemans forum as well. Is your name by any chance Stan Bulmer?Comment

AP pistol ammo is a big no no... The police don't even use AP pistol rounds, why would a security company use them, unless you're talking like security contractor.Comment

Where on earth are folks coming up with the idea that FMJ ammo won't penetrate a car door anyways?
In a few of our desert shoots, .22LR, not to mention .45 and 9mm ball penetrated JUST FINE. The latter two usually clean through both sides. There's a bunch of reinforcement and other crap inside a car door- some areas will allow easier penetration than others.
