    RBCD ammo?

While browsing through a few ammo threads which lead to a google search, I found a site that showing ballistic gel data on 9mm rounds. Well under the exotic section they talked about RCBD 60 gr 9mm ammo and how it leaves a gaping hole in the gel. This made me wonder if anyone on here had any experience with this ammo?

I think it would be a good thing to have ammo like this loaded in the guns at home.

That stuff is bunk, like ExtremeShok. Checkout http://www.tacticalforums.com/cgi-bi...ubb=forum;f=78 the terminal effects forum at tactical forums and search for RCBD. AR15.com also has a few good threads as well under their AR15->ammunition forum.

Low weight projectiles pushed at very high velocities tend to make some gruesome looking wounds but they have one thing in common - lack of penetration. While over penetration can be a legit concern, a lot of the talk by exotic ammunition companies tends to overplay this fact. These exotic rounds by in large do NOT penetrate 12 inches in ballistic gelatin. By not being able to penetrate at least 12 inches, they run the risk of making shallow wounds that do not cause rapid incapitation. (Being able to penetrate vital organs in VERY important. Do not be fooled by talk of massive cavitation (temporary cavity) causing fatal damage (Extreme Shok ammo calls it neurgenic shock haha ) - while some tissue can be easily damaged by cavitation (Brain, spleen, etc), others are very resistant to it. Furthermore handgun rounds tend not to have enough energy to create large tempoary cavities).

Do these rounds kill people? Sure. But so do .22s. The question one should ask is: are they as effective as they make themselves out to be? My opinion is no - these exotic rounds are a lot of marketing hype based with little scientic data coupled with potentially dangerous misinformation. Not to mention they are insanely expensive - why choose this ammunition when there are more reliable, cheaper, and more effective rounds on the market.

In the wise words of Dr. Roberts, get a good well establised self defense load and practice pratice practice instead of worry about your ammunition. Ultimately shot placement is the biggest factor that one should worry about not overpenetration...

It's snake oil to those that have never shot it. I have and have seen it do things that no other JHP can do. For it's the best gelatin and people are not the same.

ahhh yeah here is a real life shooting, RBCD would have killed him, heavy clothing does not effect it as much as JHP it's going over 2000 fps no hole to clog up and fragmenting hits vitals even if you don't hit center mass, not mention the guy would have bleed out.

If you look into how bullets are tested, you will find that there is an established test regimen using Ballistics Gelatin at a specific distance, temperature etc...

The makers of RBCD ammo dispute this long-standing test procedure because their bullets do not perform well under standard testing methods.

They claim that their bullets detect the temperature and the type of target and adjust their properties instantly to that target medium.

The reality is that they are just really lightweight bullets driven to extremely high pressures and velocities and they explode on the surface of gelatin like a varmint bullet, but will also penetrate thin steel plates due to sheer velocity, which varmint bullets also do...

I have shot them through metal with no deformation I have shot them into pork and it destroyed it. Penetrating about 10" and fragmenting all over place.

look at this video they go through thick doors with out fragmenting and then exploding into the clay, explain that? Not even FMJ penetrated the door.
You load what you want I have seen coyotes get hit with it and blow them apart, insides are turned into soup and fragments from front to back
I have shot coyotes with 230 Hydro and had to shoot them again. The RBCD stuff shoots frag everywhere killing them even if I did not get a clean shot.

Like in the shooting I posted above most rounds that penetrate 12" in gelatin over penetrate. 10" of penetration with full fragmentation and due to high velocity cavitation simply spells death.

Not always. Sometimes they don't always show what they seem to show.
