    A gift for a friend

Hey guys, I have a friend who is just getting into guns. He knows how to shoot but he only owns a Tokarev, which is hard to find ammo for. I think I may spring for a pistol for him as a Christmas gift, and was looking at the value-minded guns along the lines of the Walther PPX, Steyr m9a1, Smith and Wesson SD9, the Arcus, etc. He's out of state, so the roster isn't an issue.

The smith and Wesson sigma series are great inexpensive pistols. I had one and it was very accurate and reliable. The trigger is very heavy but smooth. Another option in that price range is the Ruger p series. Also great guns but I personally never cared for them. For s little more you could get a Glock or XD or M&P. its all in how much you want to spend on you'd friend. Also look for used or police trade ins. That will get you better guns at very reasonable prices.

If he is your friend do not get him a sigma. Crap gun with a crap trigger. You can get le return glock or a used m&p for the same price and actually be a good friend.

+1. Or hopefully he gets a gun by Christmastime and you can buy him accessories and/or magazines as gifts.

I'm getting him a gun because he's too poor to afford anything above 100$.

Last year, I got him a Tokarev, which he enjoyed, but the ammo seems to have dried up in his area. I was looking at LE trade ins, but new guns in a similar price point make it hard to go that route. As an aside, he's a south paw, so whatever makes that easier is great. The S&W M&P would probably fill that role best from what I hear.

Ignorance is bliss. I've had a $259 Sigma for 15 years and have no plans on getting rid of it. I'd sell my Glock before I'd sell my Sigma. But, I'm speaking from actual experience and not just parroting internet lore.

That said, I'd opt for a quality used MKII, MKIII, a Buckmark or maybe an old Hi Standard.

It's a copy of the Tanfoglio and can be had for around $325 out the door.

I have one and it's a great gun.
                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

                        Smith and Wesson SD9. Sorted.

Apex also makes a spring kit and a much better solid polymer trigger for them. As far as low cost and quality goes, I don't think you're going to find a much better deal.
