    Holster for Class

Thinking about taking a Handgun Class and looking for a holster for a XD 9 (service model with 4" barrel).

When going to the range or desert shooting I use the Safariland ALS paddle holster which is great since it's secured in place. But I'm not under stress when drawing and it's just fun time on the range so not doing any "tactical" or speed draws.

So I was thinking that since I'll be under stress at the class, if there would be a better holster for class use? One without any locking mechanism? Or keep the Safariland ALS and just train with it?

    Thanks.

Most training facilities are frowning on holsters that require you trigger finger to release the gun from the holster.

The ALS the OP has uses a thumb-released mechanism.

OP, you could just train with what you have. I carry/train out of level III holsters and do just fine (just practice your presentation).

Go ahead and use your ALS holster.

I use a 6378 for my M&P duty .45 when i'm in "admin" mode and qualify with it twice a year. I also have one for my Glock 17 and used it in a class two years ago.

With a little bit of practice, it is really fast to draw out of.

While I prefer the Safariland SLS style, the ALS should work for the class...especially with the XD.

If you aren't very good with your holster now, you will be after the number of presentations you'll perform during a class

Just use what you have. Too many over think looks and that it has to be the best newest thing around.

It's a tactical class your not trying to set a new speed record. If it holds your gun and releases it when planned its fine run it.

Gunners over think everything these days haha

Best first holster is probably a bladetech, but since you already have a holster I'd just use the ALS and not worry about it.

I've taken a lot of classes. While I do not use a holster that has a release mechanism, I think the ALS with the thumb release will be fine.

The kydex holster that comes with the XD will work as well.

The main thing is to have a holster that is made of Kydex or some type of plastic material and not leather or nylon. And you have that covered.

Any holster that doesn't click when your gun slides into it. I hate that, it turns a quick smooth draw into an awkward jerk to get it to snap out. Hate it. I've also had trouble with holsters that pivot where the screw loosens halfway through the class and needs tightening. My $8 Glock Sport Combat holster is my favorite for classes, its simple.

Stick with what you've got. Its a great holster and very fast to draw from with minimal practice. I use the same one for my Glock 20.

Safariland ALS is a great holster, and is allowed in most facility.
Train with what you have, you will know if it works after the class.

SLS and ALS are used by police forces all over the world.
I'd use it. It's already way better then a trigger finger release or a universal fit.

Ask the people that you are talking the class from?
