I'm surprised by all the support for taking him Thank you. It's just sad that his mother didn't seem to think so.

as a mom it is her job to not like it, just like it is your dog's job to bark when someone rings the doorbell. if she really hated it you would not have gotten him out the door. just be sure to acknowledge her feelings, remind her that she did a good job raising you, and that his safety is your utmost priority on these outings. rinse repeat.

For the reason that you taught him the importance of "Safety" was the paramount. As for mom, I can understand the concern fiction or not.

It's awesome that you did that for your brother.

As for your mother, I had a similar situation, as well. You should acknowledge her concerns but invite her to watch the next time you want to take your brother to the range. That way she can see first hand that safety is the first priority, that both you and your brother take the responsibility seriously and that he really enjoys shooting.

It may not change her mind about the activity, but if you remove the preconceived notions and she sees that he can handle it and makes him happy, she may allow him to continue going with you.

Swat... The Lanza comment was in pretty poor taste. If you don't know the difference between mentally handicapped and mentally unstable you should try spending some time serving these people.

OP, good for you man! I bet it meant the world to him. Joy seems so much simpler for the mentally handicapped people I know, like they can take an experience like that and appreciate it so much more than we do. We over think things, I learn a lot from people like your brother. There is a guy at a home I've spent time at who loves cops, so corona PD has a couple officers that came to his birthday party and it was pretty cool to see what that meant to him.
