Beretta Px4 question

I have the PX4 in .40 caliber. Ordered the adjustable sights. Also it is a slippery gun. I put on some Talon precut grip tape panes on. Rock solid now. It's the beside my bed gun. Have a flashlight attached along with extra magazine.....just in case the intruder has friends!

I still need to testfire one but on manhandling it I found it to be slide heavy(top heavy) and the slide lock was right where my thumbs forward would rest. Until I shoot it I don't know if either are "an issue" or not for me.

I don't have one but always wanted one ever since I rented one a while back.

In fact, I was able to rent it at half price because it was the oldest gun on their rack. Despite it looking like a beater, it shot best for me at that time when my pistol shooting skills were not up to par. Definitely, its an easy gun to shoot.

Nice gun. Nice overall quality. Didn't like the feel of the safety when racking the slide. Gun felt great and aimed great until I rented one and notice the slide/safety issue for me.

Fantastic little gun. I am about to put mine up for sale however it is not due to the gun in the least, I am simply too heavily invested in the HK platform and my Beretta's just don't get as much love anymore.

That said, the PX4 has been a reliable, easy to shoot, easy to break down and clean, easy to teach people on kind of gun. Once you Mine is a .40/9mm dual caliber and the PX4 design softens the .40 recoil to feel like a 9mm. Not one FTF/FTE in mine ever no matter what ammo.

The only two things that ever bothered me in a minor way were already mentioned above: the smooth surface (grip sleeve/tape changed that quickly) and the safety/decocker design. Yes the batwings are that way so the slide can be racked one-handed on a boot, door jam or the flaming wing of your shot-down F-16 as you are ejecting out of it, however those are the rarest of scenarios (well the first two anyway).

Racking the slide properly with a rearward follow-through on such a short slide surface to grab on can be challenging on your thumb until you get enough practice in. The slimline LE (G) safety/decocker takes care of that for those that just can't get over it (or want a slimmer conceal profile).

That's what the rear sight and the ejection port are for.

I am selling my glock 17 to get a px4 storm in 40. I shot a friends storm in 40 and it had less recoil than my g17. The recoil on the storm is very smooth and very controllable.

My sister has one. It's quite reliable. She uses it as a nightstand gun with a surefire x300 and it does a really good job at that.

I've noticed a few things with it though.

The trigger pinches my finger. It does not pinch her finger. I have huge hands though so the curve of the trigger is likely the reason I get pinched. I also get pinched with Sig short triggers, but Sig's long triggers are wonderful. Since it's not my gun I didn't research if there is a "long trigger". After getting pinched I put on some gloves.

There is a bit of mush in the reset. It isn't as bad as a stock glock, but it is much worse then an m9 or a p226. The trigger was very smooth though, with only a tiny bit of grit.

It was nearly as accurate as my p226 after I adjusted to the reset. I was able to get a 3" ragged hole at 10 yards slow fire. I shoot a lot though...

The rotating barrel is both good and bad... the good is that it soaks up recoil such that this polymer compact gun's recoil is as mild as a full sized Glock. The downside is that it adds a bit of rotational recoil, which seemed to throw my follow up shots a few inches to the right, but only when I tried shooting at speed.

I'm not a fan of the safety being on the slide. I like to be able to make a pistol ready to fire single handed, and even my big thumbs can't reach the safety one handed. I also can't decock it one handed.

It does not have replacable grips, it instead has many sizes of backstraps. It does not affect usability but it means no nice wood presentaton grips, nor fancy G10s. I like being able to swap out the grips every now and then. I suppose poly frame usually means no grips, but I still can grumble about it.

Overall, it's a good reliable gun.

It is a good deal at it's price point as I think it is much nicer then some other things that are the same cost (Glock, M&P, RIA 1911s...)
