Until I have a gun stashed in every room I'm not doing it right so no need to sell anything! I shot an m&p with apex trigger and it was awesome so try that.

Having said that there isn't a handgun that exists I can't just pick up and use. Never shot something and said "I can't use this".

I really enjoy shooting the M&P with apex stuff (sear, ram, and usb).

Give it a 1000 round trigger job before spending money on a trigger job. It's cheaper and you get to shoot the thing.

People get all kinds of obsessed about how the trigger feels and then reset... they need to go and shoot the damn thing instead of obsessing over it.

If you can't feel the reset, that's one thing. But not hearing it isn't even on my list of things to worry about. Between ear protection and other shooters firing, I can't usually hear the reset on any of my guns at the range. And in a defense situation, the temporary ringing in my ears would probably mask the small click of a reset. That just leaves dry firing as the only time I would hear it reliably. If I can feel it, that is all I need.

About 500 rounds tells me all I need to know about how well a pistol and I will get along.

About a few sessions - 3 to 4 maybe. Sometimes I realize that it's not for me or it is a redundant gun sooner than that.

No matter how much I try to justify keeping a gun, if I don't enjoy shooting it, I won't shoot it and will eventually be sold or traded for something worth a try or worth keeping.

Op: Thanks for the thread. I think you should keep the MP40 and shoot a lot more. I also agree with the quote above. That's about as objective as I can be, sir. I'm a Glock fan and would only look at 1911 as an alternative carry but we're all different and will have unique views on how to address an issue.

So, I'll err on the side of optimism. You bought the gun. So, give her a fair shot. If upgrades are necessary in " your " opinion than make them. Trigger, etc.

Wouldn't it be ironic, if 1 year from now that you decided the M&P40 was the cornerstone of your System?.

ps. Just so you know, I'm breaking in brand new G17 and G21 so I can relate to what your concerns. For me, though. It's all about improving the accuracy with both guns. That's it. I have the utmost confidence in the platform.

An audible reset is pointless, as long as you can feel where it resets you're fine. The M&P resets very quickly in my experience; so much so it's a little scary how light the trigger pull can get on follow-up shots. I'd give it about 1000 rounds like mentioned above before making your final judgement.

IMHO, even the new and improved M&P triggers leave a lot to be desired. They are no where near as good as a stock Glock trigger. At a bare minimum I would suggest the APEX Forward Set Sear and Trigger Kit and also their MP RAM. But even then, the tactile and audible reset will still be a bit vague compared to a Glock. However, it will be light years ahead of the stock trigger. I haven't tried the new APEX polymer trigger, but I sure like their aluminum one.

Out of the box, the Glock Trigger wins. Especially considering you have to spend a couple hundred extra just to make an M&P trigger nice.

If this will be a carry gun, buy the APEX DCAEK Kit and their MP RAM.

People knock them hard but I really enjoy the way my M9A1 shoots. Ergonomically I knew it was a for before I Drosed it. The open top slide seems to reduce a lot of felt recoil along with the heavy frame because I'm really bugged by the recoil in my P226, and G17 when they are shot side by side. Had I shot it side by side I may not own a P226 today...

500-1000 rounds before spending any money on it. Round count increases in proportion to the cost of the mod desired

Of course I bought a Springfield 9mm a few years ago and I'm still not sure if I like it, despite thousands of rounds!

This totally depends on the shooter. How much trigger time do you Have in general? How many different platforms are you familiar with/have you owned? I buy a gun and sometimes sell it before I ever put a round through it. Especially with 1911's. I've prob sold some I shouldn't have but I like what I like. It's all preference. As for your example, as has been pointed out, an audible trigger reset is not necessary or even useful in my experience. How can you hear a trigger reset with hearing protection and rounds thundering out of your barrel anyway? Trigger reset is a feel thing.

Do both, you'll be a better shooter and you'll have a better gun.

I like johnny1290's idea to make the eval time proportional to the cost of upgrading.

This might be another thread, but I am curious to know if the factory "action package" compares at all to the apex kit.

I've been dry firing it a bunch & can finally start to get comfy with the reset. The more I get used to the trigger the more I like this pistol!
