    AR Pistol Age Limit

I'm sorry if this question has been asked elsewhere, but I tried searching and couldn't find an answer.

I am, right now, planning to build an AR pistol. Partly because I want one, partly because of pending legislation. I understand the whole 80%, SSE, so on process, but I have a question about age. I am 19 right now. I can't legally buy a handgun until I'm 21, but I can legally possess one. However, can I legally manufacture a handgun?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can manufacture a handgun if you are 18+ years old. Just be sure to first build it in roster exempt configuration.

Yes, but, CA will require you to be 21 to register it as an AW if 374 goes into affect.

Right now the AW registration age is 18. Does 374 change that?

Not that I know of. I made a mistake. Thanks for catching it.

Can someone post a link to this configuration?
I have an 80% lower that I wanted to build in to an AR pistol and am new to the AR Pistol scene.

                Here you go:

To do this follow these steps:

                Finish lower
                Install lower parts kit
Install magazine lock; I prefer the Bullet Button
Insert a 0 round magazine or a magwell block that will lock into place.
Attach a less than 16" upper

You have just built a Single Shot Exempt AR style pistol.

Now spend the next 5 seconds and convert it to a semiautomatic.

Follow these steps to convert to semiautomatic:

Use a tool; like a bullet tip, to remove the 0 round magazine or magwell block
Replace with a 10 round or less magazine

Congratulations, you have just converted it to a semiautomatic AR style pistol.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

So I must build it to a single shot pistol.
Then it's ok to convert it to semi ?

Would it also be wise to Engrave the word "Pistol" on the 80% AR lower?

Yes, any handgun built in CA must either be listed on the roster or be roster exempt. And, seeing as you are not a Manufacture building a gun that is listed on the roster you must build it in a roster exempt form.

Yes, there is no law saying you must keep your gun in the same configuration as it was built. You are free to modify it in way you want so long as the modifications don't violate any other laws.

There is no law that requires that.

I personally would not do that.

There is also no need to register your home made pistol.

There are however different schools of thought on the matter.

There is no law saying that you need to mark you home made pistol with a "Make, Model and Serial Number".

I personally would mark any gun I made. If you do put that info be sure to fallow the ATF guide lines as how to mark your firearm. That way if someday down the line you want to sell it you may do so.
