Check out the gunsmithing section, there are a few threads in there. IDK what frames your are interested in, there are no traditional 1911 80% frames available other than the KTO and it is pricey.

I did and no one responded. So i assume it's not very common.

I may buy it in hopes that there would be a build party of some sort or a machine shop that would be willing to lend a hand.

What frame is it? A 80% 1911 is way more involved than a 80% AR so its not likely that you would find a machine shop or build party where you can finish it. What you might be able to do is find someone who is also working on one near you and work out a deal to use their equipment.

There is the Ares and I believe you can finish it there so that would probably be the best option although it seems that customer service isnt a strong point with them judging by the chatter in the ares build thread.

Its from a company called precision arms and it's a 1911 aluminum 80% frame. The pisol grip is attached to the frame. It's not like the ares rudius frame.
I thought about asking ares, but ares 1911 frame is different cause it's a rudius frame where the lower grip part is polymer.

Its hard to tell what the Precision Arms frames will be like, I dont think anyone actually has one yet.

These frames are also still available, but they are more like 60% completed. In addition to the holes, barrel seat, and rails, you also need to locate and drill the ejector holes, finish the mag release slot, and that tricky little tiny slot inside the right side mag release hole.

This is not an AR lego kit by any means. You really need to enjoy working with metal!

I've built 80% 1911 frames with just a dermal before, it worked out. Need some attachments so you can mount your dermal, but it was a fun project.

Say I get an 80% 1911 from KTO is there a gunsmith in the SoCal area who can help with the build? What type of FFL is needed? I'm perfectly fine with having a gun serialized and registered. I want it this way because there isn't a production 1911 9mm with a full rail.
