    Cleaning a Gun?

Hi! How often do you clean your gun? Let's say I'd just shot 200 rounds of 9mm. Can I wait for 2 more weeks or more and shoot 200 more rounds before cleaning it?
I just don't want to be fanatic in cleaning or overdoing it.
So what is the acceptable way of cleaning a gun?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
By the way, I own sig p226 and S&W 686plus.

with that low of a round count, the truth is, its all about how valuable your time is.
i can run anywhere from 100 to 500 rounds through my XD45 without cleaning it and it still goes bang bang perfectly every time. and i'm willing to bet, i could go up to 1K+ rounds through it and it would still fire just fine...., but personally i do prefer to clean if after shooting a few hundred rounds, if time permits.
the only time i clean immediately after shooting, without exception, is when shooting corrosive ammo (i.e. Mosin Nagant, ect.).

besides that ^, a few hundred rounds isnt going to do do jack to the operation of the gun.

If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.

I clean my guns everytime I come back from a shoot because gunpowder is corrosive. You should too.

If it is a 1911 (or any weapon for that matter) every time you are done at the range. If you cc every day to make sure you have nothing in the barrel.

I also clean my guns after every trip to the range.

I tend to clean my guns less often now and don't find any issues. And I value my time a lot so it has worked out. I tend to clean them in batches. Maybe after 300 or so rounds each? Maybe more?

Every 1000 rounds is a good point to take them apart and clean the inside and the rails and light oiling every 300 rounds or so. I do not take them apart just because I can. Frequent disassembly/re-assembley takes time and also increases the chances of you scratching the finish for which you will never forgive yourself. That is how I do it because I do not like guns with take down marks, dings or scratches on them unless if it is issued to me by the armorer and is ment to go into cambat.

Get a bore snake for your caliber and at least run that through the barrel after your range time .

The reason why I clean after every range session is because I don't know when I'll be shooting it again.

I'm not going to run 250 rounds through a gun, then just stick it in the safe and leave it dirty for months.

Maybe if I know for a fact I'm going to be shooting again the next day, I won't clean the gun. But considering it only takes 30 minutes of time, you may as well just do it.

After every trip. If you shoot outdoors it is not just burnt powder and brass getting into your firearm.

Every time I shoot it and know it's going back in the safe for any extended period of time.

Wouldn't that analogy be like wiping after every round?

Everytime I think about it and have time. so... about once a month, unless I feel ive been to the range ALOT, then about.....Once a month. I do all the ones I used at that time.
