S&W 586 Availability

We're those blued 586's that came out this/last year a one time/special run?
I have seen them on gun broker but all online dealers show them out of stock.
I'm hoping they are just popular because I want to pick one up.

Do the new 586s have firing pin on the hammer, or do they have the transfer bar, like the modern S&Ws?

I don't think any current production S&W uses a firing pin on the hammer.

EDIT: The firing pin is not on the hammer for the new 586 revolvers.

And to those interested and local to SoCal, there is a 4" 586 at Guns Direct in Burbank for $790 I believe. Such a beauty especially with the stock dark wood grips.

Modern S&Ws all have a frame mounted firing pin, not a transfer bar.

Smith and Wessson went to a transfer bar / frame mounted firing pin on the 586-5 around 1998. The current new production 586-8 in the "Classic" line have the transfer bar and the internal lock.

My son and I went to Firing Line in HB earlier today. We took to the Range a BHP ( MkII ) , the PPK/s, 10mm IAI Javelina and my 586.

This was the first time for my son on the S&W.

He Loved It..! I knew he would; as it is a Sweeet Revolver.

It is now his favorite handgun...

As for me, today I renewed my Personal Relationship with the IAI, after a year or so of non-shooting the 10mm..

What a sweetheart of a platform; and I really like that 10mm round..

As I stood there , watching my son fire the Javelina, the Swiftly violent combination of Thunder-Flash for some reason caused me to think of the Nordic God Thor and his short-handled Hammer -

And while I don't normally apply names to inanimate objects, such as guns; If I was to look for a name for my 10mm IAI, I think I'd call it:

"Thor's Hammer"
