I'm not new to this site. I've been posting under Bluedog for awhile now as I've been learning an incredible amount of information about firearms legislation here.
I did something unthinkable and had the audacity to open a firearms manufacturing company in Diane Feinstein's backyard here in the Bay Area. It has literally been a battle with local municipalities over the past 18 months to get my Series 7 FFL and get on the CA DOJ Centralized List. Kudos to the ATF for being very helpful through this process! Anyhow, I'm setting out to do something different in the 1911 world that I believe has never been done before. I want to bring the 1911 into the contemporary 21st century by embellishing it with iconic themes that resonate with guys. I'm not talking old school engraving or gold enletting but literally "chiseling" out my art using a file on the frame and slide. To provide the necessary canvas needed, I will be manufacturing my own frames/slides and other parts. I'm currently working on the g-code and doing a lot of prototyping. I've shared my AutoCad designs with one of the top 1911 gunsmiths in the world who got really excited about my vision and he invited me out to his ranch to hone my skills to create highly accurate "bulls-eye" guns that I will incorporate into my 1911s. I'm leaving in September to learn from this legend.
Although I have not established pricing yet, I'm targeting the luxury firearms market... think guys who buy Holland & Holland. The 1911 market has never reached out to very high end connoisseurs who like expensive collectibles. Just so we are clear, I'm not describing limited edition Colts with fancy engraving that sell for $5K. I'm thinking much much bigger in every direction! Hence, entry into this market requires a different type of marketing approach and customer experience. This is why my website http://www.secessionarms.com does not look like your typical gun website. And this is only the beginning...
As with art, some people will like it, some will hate it, but nobody will be able to ignore it. That's all in artist can hope for! To commemorate my journey, I created a T-shirt that makes a poignant political statement through symbolism you can find on my website. Come to think of it, maybe my company's name makes a statement, too! LOL
Enjoy,
Todd
