So I went to the range today and rented a sig 226 mk25 and fell in love. Can anyone give me any down falls to this gun or should I give in and try and buy it.

Sig mk25

The mk25 is more novelty over the 226 unless you plan on taking a salt water bath with it. So downside there is cost/value over a regular 226
I added the sig short reset trigger which it doesn't come with from the factory like some other sigs (226 enhanced elite)
Some people thumb the slide release with a normal shooting grip which can cause it not to lock back after last round. I've never had this issue but I've trained myself with my thumb placement.
It has no saftey so you have to get use to a DA/SA transition if that's not something you're use to. I dot find an issue with it, I think it's mostly preference and training
Otherwise no issues. I love mine, its my go to HD gun and a close 2nd place range gun to my 1911 TRP -
in CA u have to SSE the version without LCI and mag disconnect.....difficulty in finding a holster?(1913 rail).....price.....if u ever decidde to swap the trigger for the SRT defeats the purpose of having phosphate trigger.....
pros outweigh cons IMOComment

Also fell in love with the P226 platform when first trying out all types of handguns. Started paperwork this week for the non-CA version after holding off, I say get it while you can.Comment

I have the older P226 navy without the rails. It has the "NSW" pre-fix.
The only problem I've noticed with the rail model is there are less holsters available for it (or it seems like it). Cost is another downside as someone else stated. Its a cool novelty though to have the anchor stamp and what it represents. Probably makes resale easier.
Other than that its a very reliable machine and will serve you well!Comment

I have two MK25's that I just added to a SiG collection that now totals fourteen handguns. I recently transitioned from using the 1911 platform for CCW/competition to the SiG platform.
I live in a waterfront/beachfront home and find that the ocean breezes are salt laden and corrosive. One of my MK25's is my new HD gun because of its std SiGlite night sights and its anti corrosive coatings. Both features well worth any slight premium paid for the weapon.
You can't go wrong with the P226 platform and the MK25 is a very proven and durable iteration of the gun. Besides, having served in the USN after college and being a competitive sailor, I kinda like the "anchor motif" ...lolLast edited by Ronin2; 08-16-2013, 1:43 PM.Comment

price wise i don't think its that much more if you can find one.. i've seen them going for as low as 919.99 and upwards of 1100 in store. but they were all CA compliant models with the lci.. putting aside the phosphate protective coating. the barrel is chrome lined i beleive compared to the standard p226r. correct me there if i am wrong. also it comes with the sig nightsights. otherwise, i agree with everyone saying virtually same as the standard 226r. i just picked on up myself, just waiting for it to come in to dros.
i say if you have the money and you really want it. could be worth the max, couple hundred more to get it. if you just like the way it shoots, save some money and get the 226r.Comment

Sweet! I went the range a few days ago and a meet a nice fellow gun enthusiast who let me shoot his MK25. I was going to rent one regardless.
It was a great shooter, only downside is that it was CA Neutered.
At the end of the day I randomly rented a HK P2000k. Performance is great. I am impressed, very accurate! Now I am doing a little homework on a HK P30

We just got 6 MK. 25s in from Sig Sauer yesterday. They'll probably go fast, but they're amazing guns.
