Only if they're from the CITY OF LOS ANGELES. That should be a clue. Within LA County, there are about 1,000 issued, probably a couple hundred more than that.

Honestly... I dont have the statute right in front of me, but I would venture a guess that passing a fake CCW is a BIGGER crime than the Misdemeanor of unlicensed concealed carry. So why bother?

I met a guy once who had an L.A. County CCW for two decades.... And had NEVER been asked to produce it for an LEO.

Ive never had to show mine in the almost two years Ive had it (although in OC you DO have to inform the officer you have one and are carrying if they stop you for any reason. We practice our Spiels so we know what to say when the day comes?: "Good Afternoon officer, I am required by the Orange County Sheriff to inform you I have a CCW and am operating under that permit right now..." I try to say it with a plastic smile similar to the guy from those Penis Enlargement commercials on TV).

Should you carry without a license? NO!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT.... But if you are carrying without a license, dont make a bad situation worse by producing a forged document....

i know many 20 somethings that have a permit. You just need to live in the right country and not be a moron.

That form/permit is issued statewide. And they can easily call it in to check and see if your permit is valid or not. Just as you check to see if a drivers license is valid they do check to see if this is valid.

By any chance does any one know if it is possible to get a CCW in San Joaquin County?

It is possible, but not easy. A lot depends on where you actually live and who you issuing agency is....

My CCW permit is in my safe. It looks just like that one, but has 5 handguns listed because there is no limitation other than the skill of the typist. I carry a COPY around in my wallet, just as my Sheriff advised me to do.

Even if there isn't a statute against falsifying the permit, in most situations a false one would get you convicted for illegal possession of a concealed weapon and giving false info to a cop.

I earned mine at 22 and have had it ever since. I've showed it probably a half a dozen times. Never by request, however, just because I figured it would be better to let them know now than have them notice it later.

I actually accidentally put my wallet through the washer a few months ago. A lot of stuff got ruined, including the wallet itself, but amazingly my CCW was intact. The colors in my photo got washed out a little though; now I kind of look like a yellow ghost . . .

If they call in your CCW# and it doesn't match the info on your permit, you're going to be screwed. I really don't see the point of getting worked up about forgeries.
How old is your ccw? Mine is about a year and a half and I dont have any photo. Just a small piece of paper with typewriter writing. Do they have photos now with the ccw?

Nope, it's still optional, can you believe it?

Not that I think gov't is on the cutting edge of technology but I would think CCW permits would be kind of credit card style or driver's license style.

Thats not incorrect at all... There are about 1500+ out of LASD, and if you add up all the cities in LA County that also issue its a couple hundred more.
